Overview

Under the leadership and management of a Team Manager or Principal Social Worker, qualified and registered experienced Social Workers provide a statutory social work service to help and protect children, young people and support their families/carers.

Key Responsibilities

Experienced social workers are more autonomous in their role. They demonstrate expert and effective practice in complex situations, assessing and managing higher levels of risk, striking a balance between support and control, liaising with a wide range of professionals, including more senior levels.

They develop an excellent understanding of the child’s lived experience and are able to convey their views and feelings through high quality practice skills in assessment, planning, intervention and review. They use evidence-based practice to improve the child’s welfare and safety, leading to improved outcomes.

They manage complex caseloads, and offer expert opinion within the organisation and to others. They chair a range of meetings, offer expert support to case conferences, and produce high quality assessments and reports for a range of functions.

They inform, guide and model good practice, setting expectations for others and being to contribute to the public face of the organisation and / or profession. They start to take responsibility and be accountable for the practice of others, mentoring newly qualified social workers, and supervising the work of junior staff.

They undertake capacity-building with individuals, families, communities, user groups and voluntary organisations, and contribute their views on service provision to commissioners. They work collaboratively and positively with other professionals and partner agencies in order to provide a seamless and coherent service along the continuum of need set out in the Integrated Service model.

This is a public/customer-facing role, where the statutory English language requirement for public sector workers applies. This position will be subject to an enhanced criminal record disclosure check.

This is a 22.2 hour a week permanent position.

They act as representatives of the Service and the profession at all times, reflecting the requisite values and ethics in the way they work with service users and colleagues.
