ABOUT THIS ROLE
The Payroll Staff member is responsible for accurately preparing and processing weekly payroll for production and pantomime staff using StaffSavvy. The role ensures that all performers, crew, and temporary workers are paid correctly and on time, while maintaining compliance with employment laws, union agreements, and organizational policies.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Payroll Processing
* Administer weekly payroll for production, pantomime, and casual staff via StaffSavvy.
* Validate and input timesheets, rehearsal logs, and performance schedules.
* Calculate overtime, holiday pay, allowances, and deductions (e.g., tax, NI, pensions
* Ensure all payments are processed on schedule.
Compliance & Record Keeping
* Maintain accurate payroll records in accordance with HMRC regulations and company policies.
* Ensure compliance with theatre/production union agreements (Equity, BECTU, etc.)
* Provide payslips and ensure statutory reporting (RTI submissions, pension contributions)
Support & Communication
* Act as the point of contact for payroll queries from production staff, cast, and crew.
* Liaise with production managers, stage management, and finance teams regarding staff changes, contracts, and pay queries.
* Assist with onboarding new staff and setting up payroll profiles.
Reporting & Analysis
* Generate weekly payroll reports for Finance and Production management.
* Track payroll costs against production budgets.
* Assist with audits and end-of-year reconciliations
Skills and Qualifications
* Experience with payroll processing (preferably within entertainment, theatre, or events)
* Familiarity wi
th StaffSavvy
or similar payroll/rostering software.
* Knowledge of UK payroll legislation, PAYE, NI, pensions, and theatre union agreements.
* Strong attention to detail and numerical accuracy.
* Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
* Ability to work to strict weekly deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Desirable
* Experience managing payroll for freelance/contract staff.
* Knowledge of tax treatment for performers and creatives.
* Previous work in theatre, live events, or film/TV production.
