CT19 is working with an emerging cleantech organisation focused on advancing sustainable solutions for complex materials. With applications across multiple industrial sectors, the business is developing scalable technologies designed to reduce waste and support circularity.
The company is recruiting a Composites Engineer - this is a hands-on, technically broad R&D engineering role at the intersection of carbon fibre materials, experimental process development and product validation.
You will take ownership of the recovered materials workstream, focusing on understanding process outputs, validating material performance, and translating these into commercially viable product formats.
Composites Engineer responsibilities
Fibre Characterisation & Quality Control
* Characterise recovered fibre materials from pilot-scale processes
* Develop and implement robust QC methods and sampling strategies
* Collaborate with internal teams to define and maintain quality benchmarks
* Produce and maintain technical datasheets to demonstrate material performance
Composites Processing & Product Development
* Process recovered materials into customer-relevant formats (e.g. nonwovens, aligned fibres, compounded materials)
* Manufacture prototype parts and demonstrators
* Support development of the product roadmap based on customer needs
* Contribute to design of fibre handling and processing stages within pilot operations
Experimental Engineering & Data
* Design and build bespoke test rigs, fixtures and experimental setups
* Integrate sensors and data capture systems to improve measurement quality
* Develop data pipelines and analysis tools (Python or similar)
* Ensure experimental outputs are structured, repeatable and actionable
Project & Grant Delivery
* Support or lead collaborative R&D projects and grant applications
* Coordinate workstreams, milestones and stakeholder communication
* Contribute to structured project delivery and reporting
Composites Engineer requirements
* Strong understanding of carbon fibre/composites materials and their properties
* Hands-on experience with composites processing techniques
* Practical engineering mindset - able to design, build and test experimental setups
* Experience using Python (or similar) for data analysis and reporting
* Ability to generate and communicate clear, data-driven insights
* Experience contributing to R&D or grant-funded projects
* Strong organisational and project management skills
Desirable:
* Experience with composite material characterisation techniques (e.g. mechanical testing, thermal analysis, microscopy)
* Familiarity with recycling or end-of-life processes for advanced materials
* Experience working with high-performance fibres beyond carbon fibre
