Job Overview

We are looking for an outstanding clinician and leader. There are many opportunities provided by working in an acute hospital with a strong commitment to clinical excellence, high quality patient experience, top quartile performance in outcomes and efficiency, and good staff morale. In return we expect our Consultants to lead by example and use every opportunity to help us improve what we do and strengthen our reputation. The restorative surgeries on both sites are fully equipped with state-of-the-art dental equipment. Facilities and support to provide complex endodontic work are present. The units have recently procured high-specification dental microscopes (Global) to support the endodontic service needs, particularly in dental trauma cases. The surgeries are also catered for Dental implants and complex periodontal surgery.


Main duties

* Lead the development of high-quality Restorative Dentistry service within BCUHB, including the opportunity to be directly involved in the development of a Tier 2 Restorative service across North Wales.
* Support and develop multidisciplinary clinics with Orthodontics, Paediatric Dentistry and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery to provide assessment, treatment planning and treatment as appropriate
* Member of the Head and Neck Cancer MDT providing expert input and service support to Cancer patients.
* Provide assessment, treatment planning and treatment for Cleft Lip and Palate patients, as part of the North West Cleft Lip & Palate Service.
* Provide a specialist Restorative Dentistry advisory, diagnostic and treatment planning service to support dental practitioners in the management of complex restorative cases, including guidance in the execution of treatment as necessary
* Provide assessment, treatment planning and treatment for patients with complex restorative dentistry
* Maintain and develop local dental services by supporting innovation and best practice including redefinition of referral criteria as needed to regulate the flow of patients to the most appropriate place
* Provide advice to support the development of primary care dentists to lead to improved patient outcomes

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria

* BDS or equivalent
* Full registration with United Kingdom General Dental Council (GDC).
* Postgraduate experience
* Intercollegiate Specialty Fellowship Exit Examination in Restorative Dentistry or equivalent
* Holds CCST in Restorative Dentistry or equivalent or will obtain within 6 months of interview
* Is currently, or will be eligible for inclusion, on the GDC Specialist Register

Desirable criteria

* Distinctions, Scholarships prizes, other degrees eg BSc MSc, MS, PhD.
* Welsh Speaker.


Training

* Essential Criteria: Successful completion of an SAC approved 5-year minimum training programme in Restorative Dentistry, or within 6 months of completion or equivalent.


Audit

* Essential Criteria: Evidence of participation in clinical audit and understanding role of audit in improving medical/dental practice.
* Understanding of clinical risk management and clinical governance.

Desirable criteria: Presentation of publication of audit projects.


Research

* Essential Criteria: An understanding of general principles, scientific method and interpretation of literature.
* Ability to critically appraise the literature

Desirable criteria: Evidence of personal research and presentations; Publications in peer reviewed journals.


Management

* Essential Criteria: Commitment to participating in and understanding of the management process.
* Ability to manage a clinical service
* Evidence of organisational ability
* Ability to prioritise and plan effectively.
* Ability to manage conflicting and unpredictable demands.

Desirable criteria: Evidence of management training.


Teaching

* Essential Criteria: Commitment to teaching of dentists, junior staff and allied health professionals.
* Evidence of active participation in teaching.

Desirable criteria: Organisation of undergraduate and/or postgraduate teaching programmes; Evidence of Education skills training; Training and/or qualifications in teaching.
