What you’ll be responsible for
Reporting to the Head of Service, the Plant Manager will manage a Food Anaerobic Digestion operational site to achieve contractual, Health & Safety, financial, customer and performance targets and ensure compliance with all environmental and regulatory requirements for the site. The Plant Manager will ensuring assets are managed to optimal efficiency within agreed budgetary targets whilst meeting all customer service and contractual standards set under the contract with Cardiff Council. In addition, the Plant Manager will manage an operational team at the Food Anaerobic Digestion site.
Responsibilities Include
* Maximise the efficiency and effectiveness of the Food Anaerobic Plant and deliver the business performance inline or exceeding the business plan.
* Ensure compliance with all environmental, emission, planning, maintenance and permitting plans, and put in place and manage all necessary requirements to ensure adherence.
* Maintain compliance with contractual, health and safety, environmental, APHA and WWOE company standards, and ensure high standards of internal and external audit compliance (9:001, 14:001, 45001) and ongoing standard of PAS110.
* Lead and support an operational team, proactively and effectively manage and monitor team performance in accordance with all current WWOE HR policies. Set challenging individual and team targets, monitor achievement, reporting on performance and variances to senior management and contractual stakeholders as required.
* Provide advice and guidance to the operational team and management of emergency incidents or contingency plans.
* Ensure the total cost of service is under control and real efficiencies can be demonstrated and reported in monthly meetings with senior management and contractual stakeholders, including NRW reporting.
* Oversee planned and reactive maintenance planning and manage contractors (MoC) to ensure MEI tasks are completed when required and in line with best industry practice, ensuring statutory maintenance plans are delivered and reviewed.
* Actively plan and manage the operational capacity of team resources – ensuring available capacity is maximised and fully utilised.
* Represent the company during incidents with outside agencies such as the emergency services, EHO, local government etc.
* Take the lead when required to manage contractors on site and provide guidance under Management of Contractors when needed.

About You
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
* A degree level qualification, or equivalent, in engineering or science
* Ability to demonstrate a commercial approach to cost efficiency and lead large scale change programmes to achieve a high-performance business culture
* Experience of managing an operational team
* Experience of working in the Water, Waste or Energy Sectors
* Experience of working with Anaerobic Digestion technology
* Experience of managing contractors to contract
* Strategic thinking combined with effective day‑to‑day operational focus
* The awareness of economic, environmental, social and political factors that may affect the role or organisation, and the ability to assess their impact, overcome challenges and seize opportunities to optimise effectiveness
Good to know
* The role is site based, with a requirement to participate in a standby rota
* A full UK driver’s licence is required for the role
