Lead Enterprise Architect Location: Hybrid - Porton Down, Salisbury or Portsdown West, Fareham (occasional on-site presence required) Duration: 12 months The ideal candidate will hold Active SC clearance Overview We're seeking an experienced Lead Enterprise Architect to play a pivotal role in shaping and governing digital design and strategy across a complex technical landscape. This position requires a strategic thinker with strong architectural expertise and the ability to balance governance, innovation, and business needs. As the Lead Enterprise Architect, you will ensure that enterprise architecture principles, design standards, and technical policies are effectively implemented, enabling the organisation to deliver secure, efficient, and future-ready digital capabilities. Key Responsibilities Provide design governance and assurance across the organisation's digital estate. Develop and maintain architecture principles, policies, standards, and sub-strategies, ensuring alignment with corporate goals. Translate business problems into robust technical designs, balancing innovation with security and compliance. Offer technical and strategic guidance to digital programmes, projects, and services to ensure alignment with enterprise architecture direction. Engage with both technical and business stakeholders, understanding their needs and making informed design decisions based on complexity, risk, and impact. Design systems characterised by medium to high levels of complexity and strategic importance, often spanning multiple services or business domains. Essential Experience & Skills Proven hands-on experience as an Applications, Technical, Solution, or Enterprise Architect. Demonstrated experience in developing architectural strategy, policies, and processes. Strong background in architecture governance and assurance. Skilled in writing and reviewing technical design documentation. ISEB certification (Information Systems Examination Board) plus one of the following: ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) Certification IT4IT Certification COBIT (Control Objectives for Information and Related Technologies) Certification Desirable Experience Previous experience in a similar architectural role within the public sector, defence, or secure environments. Experience working with or alongside strategic outsourcing partners. Familiarity with MOD or government security and IT policies, such as JSP440, SPF, and GPG frameworks, and their practical application in secure digital environments
