Senior Infrastructure Architect – Transport for London
Contract type: Permanent (TfL)
Salary: £78,000–£85,000 (dependent on skills, knowledge & experience). Includes excellent benefits such as free travel across TfL services, final salary pension and 30 days annual leave.
Location: North Greenwich, London – Hybrid Working (50% office attendance).

Overview
As a Senior Infrastructure Architect in the Hosting and Infrastructure Architecture team, you will be at the heart of major projects and programmes that continually improve the travel experience in London. Recent initiatives include enhancing cyber‑security, delivering transformations to customer‑facing services such as Revenue Collection, End User Computing, and a complete re‑platforming of systems supporting the London Underground, Elizabeth Line and surface transport. You will develop new solutions in public and private cloud to deliver these and many more key initiatives.
What You’ll Be Doing
* Responsible for the end‑to‑end lifecycle of specific infrastructure products – from conceptualisation and business case development to shaping achievable strategies and roadmaps.
* Work with Project Manager, Business Analyst, Development Solution Architecture and Test teams to explore high‑ and low‑level designs, and see your infrastructure successfully deployed and put into operation.
* Partner with third‑party suppliers to ensure their solutions meet business and technical requirements.
Qualifications & Experience
Expert knowledge of at least three of the following infrastructure technologies:
* Virtualisation platforms (e.g., Azure Local, VMware, Hyper‑V)
* Hyper‑converged infrastructure and virtual storage attached networking
* Cloud platforms such as Azure and AWS
* Networking and connectivity (TCP/IP, DNS, VPNs, proxies, load balancing)
* Enterprise operating systems and databases (Windows Server, RedHat Enterprise Linux, Oracle DBEE, SQL Server)
Additional advantageous knowledge:
* Enterprise security (IDS/IPS, encryption, PKI)
* Microsoft 365 platforms and architecture (Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, Entra ID)
* Additional network technologies and architecture (firewalls, switching, routing)
* Managing contractual issues in a project environment
* Project management tools and techniques
* Certification in an Enterprise Architecture Framework such as TOGAF
Ideal candidate: educated to degree level or possesses relevant professional experience.
Key Skills
* Strong infrastructure architecture skills across software, infrastructure, and networks.
* Ability to create high‑level architecture from loose requirements and refine as data evolves.
* Proven ability to analyse complex components, identify decision points, and produce design artefacts.
* Excellent communication – oral and written – with stakeholders including PMs, business analysts, developers, engineers, and testers.
* Experience designing and delivering systems using industry‑standard frameworks and open standards.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Delivery focused, prioritise tasks in a high‑pressure environment to meet deadlines.
