Overview
As a subject teacher you will be required to complete the professional duties that are expected of a UK qualified Teacher in accordance with academy policies and procedures and your subject specialism. The role will be temporary in the first instance for maternity cover, with a view to this becoming a permanent appointment in time. You should promote the achievement of high standards through effective teaching and learning within your subject area, including the preparation, application and development of lesson resources in alignment with the curriculum, as directed by your department head and senior leaders within the academy. You will be responsible for effective classroom management and the coordination of class work with any classroom support staff that are present. You must evaluate lessons and incorporate student views and responses to reflect and identify areas of development.
Applicants must hold UK QTS; if trained overseas, provide relevant evidence that your qualification equates to UK QTS.

Department and Environment
The Ormesby Humanities Department is a welcoming and sociable team of 4 staff (2 historians and 2 geographers) who are passionate about their subject specialisms. The department is well respected within the Academy and is located centrally, with all classrooms close together. Geography classrooms are resourced with interactive whiteboards, visualisers and ample storage to support teaching in a variety of ways. We also have a workroom with computers and resources, including books and subscriptions to professional organisations to support development. Wellbeing and workload management is a priority, and we collaborate to share planning and resources.
Curriculum and Provision
KS3 follows a 3-year program of study with the aim of developing critical thinking, understanding of the world, employability skills and a genuine love of Geography. KS3 allocation is 2 hours per week in year 7, 1 hour in year 8 and 2 hours in year 9. For GCSE we follow AQA with units covering Paper 1: Natural Hazards, Living World (Hot Deserts), Coasts and Rivers; Paper 2: Urban and Economic Change; Resource Management and Water; Paper 3: Pre-Release and Fieldwork.
