We have a fantastic opportunity for a Healthcare Assistant to join the team at HMP Altcourse, a busy Category B male prison in Fazakerley, Liverpool. HMP Altcourse is the busiest remand prison in the country, so there\'s lots going on in this exciting, varied role, where you will gain valuable experience, and no 2 days are ever the same!
This is a crucial role within the healthcare team, making a real difference to patients, and delivering outstanding care. This role offers excellent developmental opportunities and is a great environment to build on your experience and gain new skills! As part of the primary care team, you will be working on the wings and clinic rooms, inpatients and working closely with nurses, paramedics and the wider prison team.
Hours and salary
Hours: This is a full time role, working 37.5 hours per week. Shift patterns vary, and include nights and weekends on a rota basis. Example shifts: 7am - 8pm / 8am - 9pm / 9am - 10pm / 7:45pm - 7:15am
Salary: £25,557 - £29,723 per annum. Please note you will be expected to work unsociable hours including some weekends, evenings and night shifts where applicable
Main duties of the job
As our new Healthcare Assistant, your responsibilities will vary. Some of your duties will include:
* Run and support clinics on the wings and in healthcare. Clinics are a crucial part of our service, and include bloods, ECGs, wound care, health promotion and NHS Health Checks
* Work on receptions (new patients entering prison), assisting the nurse on duty
* Support the nurses on duty with all aspects of care
* Second sign in pharmacy and support pharmacy staff as needed, including on medication rounds
* Respond to emergencies as needed alongside the nurse on duty
* Although working mainly in primary care, you will also gain experience in mental health and substance misuse

Our new Healthcare Assistant will:
* Hold a Care Certificate and/or NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health & Social Care
* Have experience within a care setting - we would love to hear from you if you have experience in the community, care home, hospitals etc
* Any clinical experience would be a bonus - venepuncture, wound care, observations etc
* Have a non-judgemental and compassionate approach
