Role
This is a great opportunity to join our team as a Field Interviewer working for the Office for National Statistics via AMS. As a Field Interviewer conducting official surveys you will help inform Government about the state of the nation. The role will start with five weeks of comprehensive training to support your success. It involves visiting sampled addresses to encourage survey participation and interviewing respondents in their homes. This role is not office based. You will work within approximately a 40-mile radius of an allocated location, with work allocated to fit your contracted hours in that area. Consider how your home location compares to your chosen location preference to achieve this.
Working patterns
This role offers flexible working hours, broadly equivalent to 22 hours per week. Interviews will need to be conducted between 09:00 and 20:00, with potential for admin and travel time outside these hours. Interviwers will work across mornings, afternoons, and evenings and are contracted to work Monday to Saturday.
Responsibilities
* Carry out field interviewing by visiting sampled addresses and encouraging survey participation; interview respondents in their homes where required.
* Plan, organise and manage your own workload with provided training and support.
What we are looking for
We are looking for individuals who are friendly, outgoing, and confident approaching and conversing with a wide range of people. Excellent communication skills are needed to be the face of ONS and to persuade reluctant individuals to take part in surveys. You should be self-disciplined, self-motivated and able to work without supervision.
Requirements
* Be able to transport and carry equipment (e.g., laptop and survey materials), may require walking between addresses and navigating stairs.
* Live within a 10-mile radius of the location and be able to travel to addresses within a 40-mile radius from the advertised location.
* Interviews conducted between 09:00–20:00; hours split across mornings, afternoons, and evenings, with flexibility to work on Saturdays if required.
* Experience of using a laptop and a smartphone.
* Self-disciplined and motivated; able to work without supervision.
* Excellent verbal communication skills and enjoy meeting people.

Essential requirements
* Candidates will be subject to UK immigration requirements as well as Civil Service eligibility rules.
* Full valid UK Driving License (including rights of EU Nationals) and full use of a car for work purposes including business use.
* Proof of Identity.
* Broadband internet connection at your home address prior to taking up employment.
Competencies
We will assess you against these competencies during the selection process: Communication and Influencing, Problem Solving and Prioritisation, and Resilience. A question regarding the ability to use technology will also be included.

Selection process
Assessment at application stage will be based on work history, skills, experience and personal statement. If successful, you will be invited to a video interview lasting 30–45 minutes. At interview you will be asked to provide evidence to support your application and demonstrate your suitability against the required competencies. Familiarise yourself with the competencies and prepare questions to ask at interview.
Security
Successful candidates must undergo Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) checks and a criminal record check.
