Location: Manchester Reports To: Estimating Manager / Commercial Director / Project Director Job Type: Full-Time Job Overview: We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Electrical Project Estimator to prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates for electrical projects across commercial, residential, or industrial sectors. The role requires a strong understanding of electrical systems, materials, and labour costs, as well as the ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications. Key Responsibilities: Prepare detailed electrical estimates and tender submissions for projects, including material take-offs, labour estimates, and subcontractor quotations. Review project specifications, drawings, and other documentation to determine project scope and requirements. Identify cost-saving opportunities and provide value engineering options. Liaise with clients, engineers, suppliers, and subcontractors to gather information and clarify technical aspects of bids. Evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotes to ensure accuracy and competitiveness. Attend pre-tender meetings, site visits, and post-tender negotiations as required. Ensure that all estimates comply with relevant electrical codes, standards, and health and safety regulations. Assist project and commercial teams with budgeting, procurement, and change management throughout project delivery. Maintain an up-to-date cost database for labour, materials, and subcontractors. Track and analyse estimate performance to improve future pricing strategies. Key Skills & Experience: Proven experience as an Electrical Estimator, ideally within the construction or building services industry. Strong understanding of electrical systems (power distribution, lighting, containment, fire alarms, BMS, etc.). Proficiency in estimating software (such as Trimble, ConEst, Accubid, Amtech) and Microsoft Excel. Excellent attention to detail and numerical accuracy. Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and technical specifications. Strong communication and negotiation skills. Ability to manage multiple estimates and meet tight deadlines. Qualifications: HNC/HND or degree in Electrical Engineering, Building Services, or a related field. Apprenticeship background or time-served electrician experience is an advantage. ECS/CSCS card and knowledge of IEE Wiring Regulations (BS7671) preferred. Desirable Attributes: Knowledge of renewable energy systems and smart technologies. Understanding of BIM and digital take-off tools. Experience in design & build or pre-construction estimating.
