SEN Teaching Assistant with psychology background - (Daily Supply, Short-Term)
Location: Barnet
We are seeking proactive and confident Teaching Assistants to support children with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and ASD. A number of primary and secondary schools are looking for individuals with experience or a keen willingness to learn how to assist children with additional needs, particularly those with SEMH or Special Educational Needs (SEN).
Responsibilities
* Work with students either on a 1:1 basis or in small groups within a classroom environment. The pupils supported will range from ages 2 to 19 and may have conditions such as Autism, ADHD, challenging behaviours, and physical disabilities like Down Syndrome.
* Provide support in the classroom, during specialist mentoring sessions, and occasionally during break times.
* Receive training in relevant intervention techniques to support more challenging behaviours.
* Collaborate closely with the SENCO, senior staff, and external professionals such as therapists, healthcare experts, and CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services).
Qualifications and Requirements
* Flexible, adaptable approach.
* Available for daily temporary work.
* Passionate about helping children with SEND.
* Willingness to learn and to support children with SEMH/SEN.
* Successful candidate will be required to complete Disclosure and Barring Service declarations in line with Section 115 of the Police Act 1997.
* Provide 2 professional references covering at least the last 2 years.
