Are you ready to lead mechanical design for one of the UK's most high-profile Life Sciences developments?
At Laing O'Rourke, we're seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Manager to join the technical leadership team delivering the pre-construction phase of a landmark £900m Life Sciences facility. Working between Dartford and our London-based design partners, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping world-class environments for research and innovation.
Why this role matters:
As our mechanical design lead during the critical 2-year PCSA phase, you'll:
* Lead design development from RIBA Stage 2 onwards across complex HVAC, process systems and specialist lab requirements.
* Collaborate with client-side technical teams, design consultants and specialist supply chain partners.
* Ensure design assurance, programme alignment and risk reduction across all mechanical packages.
* Drive innovation in digital engineering, MMC, and sustainability outcomes.
What you'll bring:
* 10+ years' experience in mechanical building services design, including large-scale or technically complex projects.
* Track record in leading multi-disciplinary teams through early design and technical assurance phases.
* Degree-qualified in Building Services / Mechanical Engineering (Chartered status preferred).
* Deep knowledge of regulated environments (Life Sciences, Healthcare, Pharma, or similar).
* Exceptional communicator with the ability to influence, challenge and lead through collaboration.
