About the Job
Google's software engineers develop the next-generation technologies that change how billions of users connect, explore, and interact with information and one another. Our products must scale to massive traffic and extend beyond web search, requiring expertise in information retrieval, distributed computing, large‑scale system design, networking, data storage, security, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, UI design, and mobile. The Arts and Culture team builds a platform that lets cultural institutions bring digitized collections online in a user‑friendly way, using new technologies and storytelling to create innovative experiences. This role supports creative coders and artists in residence, ensuring the stability, security, and launch readiness of public‑facing experiments that run on external models like Gemini and internal models in a fast‑paced, varied‑demand environment that connects the external world with internal processes.
Minimum Qualifications
* Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
* 1 year of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, C, C++, Java, JavaScript).
* 1 year of experience with full‑stack development, across back‑end such as Java, Python, Go, or C++ codebases, and front‑end experience including JavaScript or TypeScript, HTML, CSS, or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
* Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
* 1 year of experience with data structures or algorithms.
* Ability to collaborate effectively and deliver high‑quality work.
* Ability to self‑direct individual contributions.
* Ability to scope problems and implement solutions.
Responsibilities
* Write product or system development code and participate in or lead design reviews with peers and stakeholders to decide among available technologies.
* Review code developed by other developers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style guidelines, code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency).
* Contribute to existing documentation or educational content and adapt content based on product/program updates and user feedback.
* Triage product or system issues, debug, track, and resolve by analyzing the sources of issues and the impact on hardware, network, or service operations and quality.
* Prepare experiments for launch via configuration management. Implement and maintain endpoints to proxy internal GenAI services. Help prevent and address security vulnerabilities, assist in implementing mitigation measures. Rebuild and redeploy existing experiments, update them to new runtimes, APIs, ML models, etc.
