Roxel is an Anglo-French Company that designs, develops and manufactures a range of solid propellant rocket motors for use in tactical missiles. Its operations are spread across several sites in the UK and France and it has an annual turnover of about £200M and nearly 1000 staff.

The UK operations are entirely based at Summerfield, Kidderminster, where we have a requirement for a new or recent graduate to work as a rocket motor modeller on a variety of new and existing projects.

We currently have a vacancy for a Senior Stress Engineer to work within the rocket motor design team.

Experience in rocket motor design and modelling is not expected candidates interested in moving into this new and exciting field are encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate will work as part of the wider Roxel team on all phases of the project life cycle including research, design, demonstration, development, production and customer support.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be the structural technical authority for several rocket motor products and will act as a senior supporting figure within the team. This includes contributing to the peer review of others work and support of their development. Specific areas of work will mainly include conducting Finite Element Analysis (baseline software is Abaqus) of rocket motor hardware (metals, rubber/rigid insulants, bondlines) and the energetic propellant charge. Therefore, knowledge of material science and engineering would be advantageous, especially including non-linear viscoelasticity. In summary, the role will involve the following activities:

* Analysis of new and existing rocket motor systems such as motor hardware and propellant charge structural and thermal analysis using FEA software.
* The use of various software and programming techniques, including: Abaqus, Altair-Hyperworks, Fortran and Matlab.
* Rheological analysis of material testing results and providing advice to the technical community for validation and verification of FEA models.
* Development of motor structural test plans and involvement in the delivery and assessment of the structural testing results.
* Responsible as the structural performance technical authority aspects of assigned projects, including supporting project customer meetings, project investigations, design reviews, and corresponding customer stress engineers.
* Deliver key project documentation including, structural analysis and structural test plans and reports and structural design records.
* Contributions to Rocket Motor certification using expert knowledge.
* Responsible for keeping updated with industry technical innovations and changes, building on their expertise, and acting as the technical lead of new technology research programmes, and the on-time delivery and cost of the programme and interfacing with the customer.
* Schedule, plan and prioritise their work and time to ensure on time delivery of tasks.
* Identify risks and issues that may impact delivery, including time, quality and cost, and communicate solutions with the Design Manager.

Requirements

* Educated to degree level in an engineering discipline such as Mechanical, Aerospace or Structural or another related discipline.
* Proficiency in the use of Abaqus FEA Software
* At least 8 years' experience in Stress Engineering with knowledge and understanding of product certification requirements within the defence industry. Experience in related fields may also be considered.
* Proficiency with the Microsoft office package, particularly Word, Excel and Access.
* Material science knowledge (In particular composites, viscoelastic materials and adhesives)
* Experience with CAD modelling and Altair-Hyperworks would be considered an advantage
