Rate: £40-£50 per hour (Umbrella PAYE)

Exciting Opportunity for a Highway Maintenance Engineer in East Yorkshire
An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Highway Maintenance Engineer to join a busy Local Authority highways team. This role will focus on the management and delivery of highway maintenance schemes, helping to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the highway network.
Working alongside engineers, inspectors, contractors, and stakeholders, you will play a key role in developing and delivering maintenance programmes, managing schemes from inception through to completion, and ensuring works are delivered safely, on time, and within budget.
Main Duties
- Managing the delivery of highway maintenance and improvement schemes across the network.
- Developing maintenance programmes and prioritising works based on asset condition and operational requirements.
- Preparing works packages, specifications, estimates, and contract documentation.
- Supervising contractors and monitoring progress, quality, and programme performance.
- Undertaking site inspections and assessments to identify maintenance requirements.
- Liaising with internal teams, elected members, contractors, utility companies, and members of the public.
- Managing budgets and monitoring scheme expenditure.
- Ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation, industry standards, and local authority procedures.
- Assisting with the investigation and resolution of highway related enquiries and issues.
- Supporting the continuous improvement of maintenance processes and asset management practices.
Key Experience
- Delivering highway maintenance, resurfacing, reconstruction, or improvement schemes.
- Working within a Local Authority, consultancy, or highways contractor environment.
- Contract administration and contractor management.
- Preparing specifications, estimates, and technical reports.
- Knowledge of relevant highways legislation and standards.
- Managing multiple projects and competing priorities.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience using highway asset management systems would be advantageous.
- A relevant qualification in Civil Engineering, Highway Engineering, or a related discipline is desirable.
