Design Lead (Mechanical) – Water & Wastewater Location: Bath (Hybrid – minimum 3 days in office) Salary: £60,000 – £70,000 Car/Allowance Excellent Benefits Type: Full-time, Permanent Are you an experienced Engineering Design Lead with a strong mechanical design background in the water or wastewater industry? Due to internal progression, continued project success, and exciting growth plans heading into AMP8 and AMP9, we’re looking for a talented Design Lead to take charge of a mechanically biased engineering design team — driving technical excellence, innovation, and development across multiple complex infrastructure projects. In this role, you’ll lead, mentor, and expand a skilled team of design engineers, ensuring project deliverables are completed to the highest standards. You’ll collaborate with cross-discipline teams, influence key design decisions, and play a vital part in delivering sustainable engineering solutions that make a real impact. The Role * Lead and develop a team of mechanical design engineers to deliver high-quality engineering design outputs. * Oversee all stages of the design process — from outline scope and detailed design through to fabrication-level design and construction support. * Support the development of specifications for equipment, systems, and survey requirements, ensuring compliance with client needs and industry standards. * Drive design innovation, continuous improvement, and efficient project delivery. * Collaborate with project managers, commercial teams, and other discipline leads to achieve successful project outcomes. * Attend client sites as required, providing technical input and receiving valuable project feedback. * Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and supply chain partners. About You * Strong mechanical design engineering experience on small to medium-sized projects. * Proven leadership in managing, developing, and mentoring multi-disciplinary design teams. * Background in the UK water or wastewater industry (or similar engineering sectors). * Experienced with CAD-based design systems, CDE platforms, and design planning tools. * Skilled in design project management, commercial awareness, and financial reporting. * Degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical or Civil Engineering. * Professional membership (e.g., IMechE, ICE) desirable.
