Are you looking for a rewarding career in Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS)? We have an exciting opportunity for a professionally registered clinician to join the North Yorkshire, York and Selby (NYYS) CAMHS Crisis team. The NYYS CAMHS Crisis Team is a local‑wide service that provides a 24/7 service to young people under the age of 18 and their carers/families in most parts of North Yorkshire, York and Selby, excluding the Craven area (covered by a different trust).
This postholder will conduct psycho‑social assessments for young people experiencing a crisis and create robust safety plans with the child, the young person and carers, enabling a safe return home. The role requires strong team coordination, management of shared caseloads, and the ability to work autonomously. Travel across the locality and access to a suitable vehicle for business purposes is essential.
This post is for a band 6 Registered Professional with a keen interest in working with children and young people to improve their mental health.
Main duties of the job
* Conduct psycho‑social assessment of the mental health and emotional needs of a young person.
* Perform risk assessment and formulate a care plan that includes a robust safety plan.
* Collaborate with young people, their carers and professionals during periods of high distress.
* Provide a consistent approach to challenging situations to deliver safe care to young people and their families/carers.
* Lead shifts confidently and direct junior staff, providing sound clinical decisions in crisis scenarios to reduce potential risks.
* Communicate effectively with young people, families and other professionals to ensure appropriate support.
* Possess experience in mental health services, knowledge of child and adolescent mental health, and understanding of relevant legislation (e.g. MHA, MCA, Children’s Act), safeguarding, clinical risk assessment and management.
* Nursing candidates must have 18 months post‑qualifying experience including sign‑off of appropriate preceptorship or competency framework at the time of applying.

Job responsibilities
* Work a shift pattern that includes day and night shifts over a 7‑day period, including bank holidays pro‑rated.
* Operate as part of a multi‑disciplinary team and communicate effectively with others.
* Provide 24/7 service provision across the NYY locality from bases in York, Scarborough and Ripon, traveling as required.
* Coordinate the day‑to‑day operation of a shift, demonstrating leadership skills.
* Maintain a strong understanding of children’s mental health and emotional wellbeing needs.
* Collaborate with partner agencies and understand how services link together to meet the needs of children and young people.
* Promote evidence‑based practice as shift co‑ordinator on a rota basis, ensuring efficient and effective team operation.
* Recognise and report potential harm, abuse, neglect, and poor clinical practice, taking reasonable steps to protect young people.
* Identify and report safeguarding concerns for children at risk of harm.
* Support young people who access the national 111 2 mental health line, providing triage and risk assessment to determine appropriate care level.
Professional development

Person specification
Qualification
* Current professional registration with the appropriate body in healthcare or social work.
* Evidence of continuing professional development.
* At least 18 months post‑qualifying experience with sign‑off of appropriate preceptorship or competency framework.
* Clinical supervisor role or equivalent.
* Recognition of sign‑off mentor (or equivalent) where applicable.
* Key skills in literacy, numeracy and ITQ level 2 (or equivalent).
* Certificate in teaching & assessing clinical practice, as appropriate.
* Recognised training in facilitation of parenting groups.
* Recognised qualification in a specific model of therapy (e.g. family therapy, CBT).
Experience
* Experience working in a multi‑disciplinary team.
* Provision of clinical supervision.
* Collaboration with young people and families.
* Supervision or assessment of students on clinical placements.
* Significant experience with children and young people with mental ill‑health in a community setting.
* Leadership or management experience.
Knowledge
* Understanding of relevant legislation.
* Understanding of safeguarding and its application in practice.
* Clinical risk assessment and management applied in practice.
* Post‑graduate level evidence‑based practice in caring for patients in the designated field.
* Care Programme Approach and its application.
* Understanding of psychological models of care and treatment.
* Knowledge of the Trust’s QIS system.
Skills
* Provide leadership and monitor, coordinate and prioritise team activities.
* Communicate complex and sensitive information effectively to children, young people, carers/family and multidisciplinary team.
* Work effectively as part of a multi‑disciplinary team and undertake lead professional/care coordinator responsibilities.
* Engage children and young people and work effectively in distressing and challenging circumstances.
