Senior Database Administrator
Reporting to: Head of Business Systems

Purpose of Role
A Senior Database Engineer will support, maintain and enhance SQL databases. This position requires proficiency with relational databases, object oriented programming and exceptional problem solving skills.
Key Accountabilities
* Perform upgrades of the database and SQL infrastructure to new release levels and handle database migrations.
* Administer, test, implement and support application SQL databases.
* Monitor performance, space requirements for databases and high availability configurations to ensure database uptime.
* Participate in proactive maintenance by identifying problems before they occur and implementing solutions that detect and prevent outages.
* Troubleshoot processes and optimise queries.
* Refresh non-production instances from production databases.
* Provide expert third level support in line with ZEDRA's ITSM policies.
* Own the group's database backup strategy, ensuring alignment with the businesses continuity plan.
* Drive the move to Azure SQL services & platforms.
* Support business process optimisation efforts to improve data capture, data processing and data quality.
* Support the RPA team with database connectivity requests including direct db and API methodologies.
* Support the BI team with connectivity to FABRIC and the legacy DataWarehouse.
Professional and Technical Experience
* Proven track record of database maintenance in a high availability enterprise environment.
* Demonstrable expert experience in local and cloud system operation and architecture.
* Experienced in the production of proactive monitoring solutions to support maximum system uptime (knowledge of PRTG would be advantageous).
* Expert Microsoft SQL server / T-SQL / SSIS knowledge.
* Database Design, Management, Data Integrity & Data Cleansing.
* Experience in designing and implementing ETL processes.
* Data mapping between APIs and System Databases.
* Clear understanding of web services and SOA related standards would be advantageous (such as REST/OData/JSON and SOAP/WSDL).
Base Requirements
* University educated or have IT related qualifications.
* Ideally experience working within a financial services environment.
* Minimum of 8 years’ experience working in a similar role.
* Analytical and problem solving skills.
* Effective communicator – Ability to communicate with non IT staff at all levels.
* Attention to detail.
* Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
