Income Collection Officer

Up to £35,000 basic
Our client is seeking an experienced Income Collection Officer to join their Homes team, supporting both private rented sector and social housing residents. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in delivering an effective income collection service while helping sustain tenancies and build strong communities.
You will be responsible for managing rent and service charge accounts, working proactively to minimise arrears and maximise income recovery. Working closely with the Income Manager and wider housing teams, you’ll contribute to achieving performance targets while delivering a supportive, resident-focused service.
About the role
This is a remote position with occasional travel to local offices or housing schemes as required.
Key responsibilities
* Proactively manage and reduce rent arrears across a portfolio of accounts to meet monthly targets
* Produce arrears reports and correspondence, and engage directly with residents to resolve outstanding balances
* Prepare legal documentation for possession proceedings, serve notices, and attend court where necessary
* Conduct home visits and support residents with advice to help sustain their tenancies
* Identify residents requiring additional welfare or financial inclusion support and refer appropriately
* Liaise with external agencies such as Local Authorities, DWP, and social services to support income recovery
* Handle arrears-related queries and contribute to complaint resolution
* Effectively plan and manage your workload, ensuring accounts are regularly monitored and targets achieved
About you
* Experience within housing income collection or a similar environment
* Background in credit control with a strong understanding of income recovery processes
* Knowledge of housing legislation, including Pre-Action Protocols
* Good understanding of welfare benefits, particularly Universal Credit and Housing Benefit
* Confident using housing management systems and MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
* Strong communication skills with the ability to build rapport and handle sensitive situations with empathy
* Proactive, organised, and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment
