This is a hybrid role combining strong journalistic instinct with streaming abilities. A streaming journalist will be responsible for originating, shaping, and delivering stories tailored for live streams and digital-first formats — helping the BBC connect with new and existing audiences across platforms.
Main Responsibilities
This role operates within the MENA region as part of the BBC World Service, supporting the Arabic, Persian, and potentially Turkish language services
You will be reporting to senior Journalist/reporter-Streaming and will have the following responsibilities:
Content Planning and Production Management
* Develop and manage live and recorded streaming schedules aligned with editorial priorities.
* Support the smooth delivery of streams by coordinating technical logistics and content production.
* Report directly to the Senior Journalist/Reporter-streaming, providing regular updates on content plans, technical readiness, and live operations.
Editorial Reporting and Support
* Monitor news developments, alert senior journalists to breaking news, and prepare reports, agency guidance, and briefing notes.
* Contribute story ideas and assist in shaping content for streaming and digital platforms.
Streaming Operations
* Operate and assist in managing streaming software to ensure reliable, high-quality broadcasts.
* Manage technical setup for remote and field streaming when required.
SEO and Digital Optimization
* Apply SEO techniques (metadata, titles, descriptions, tags) to maximize the discoverability of live streams and clips.
* Tailor streaming content to platform-specific requirements and algorithms.

Content Quality Assurance and Editorial Standards
* Maintain high editorial, technical, and brand standards for all live and recorded streaming output.
* Ensure compliance with BBC editorial guidelines, maintaining accuracy, fairness, and impartiality.
Guest and Talent Coordination
* Assist in preparing on-air guests and contributors, providing technical support, scripts, and briefing documentation.
Innovation, Crisis Management, and Trend Monitoring
* Stay updated on the latest digital and streaming trends and suggest innovations to enhance coverage and technical resilience.
* Assist in troubleshooting technical issues during live coverage and apply contingency procedures.
Health, Safety, and Compliance
* Follow BBC health and safety policies during streaming operations and remote deployments.
Language Ability
A strong written and spoken ability in Arabic or Persian would be an advantage but not essential.

* Proven experience as a journalist, particularly in fast-paced, digital-first environments.
* Strong understanding of editorial standards and commitment to accuracy, impartiality, and fairness.
* Good technical awareness of streaming tools and digital production processes.
* Understanding of SEO principles and how to optimize live content for social and digital platforms.
* Collaborative team player, able to work closely with senior journalists, producers, and technical teams.
* Ability to respond quickly to breaking news events and support rapid live coverage.
* Knowledge of video production processes, including planning, scripting, and publishing.
* Awareness of health and safety procedures for broadcast and remote work.
* Strong organizational and time-management skills under pressure.
* Familiarity with content management systems and newsroom editorial workflows.
* Basic skills in image or video editing tools.
* Experience supporting live audience interaction (chats, polls, interactive features).
* Familiarity with visual storytelling formats and social-first video production.
* Written and verbal communication skills in Arabic or Persian
