Public Health Assistant

Eligibility
Only colleagues currently employed within Kent and Medway NHS Trusts, the Kent and Medway Integrated Care Board (ICB) and Medway Community Healthcare are invited to apply. Nursing vacancies are also open to Student Nurses and Newly Qualified Nurses.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and adaptable Public Health Assistant to join our Health Visiting service to deliver support to families (adults) with children aged 0 to 5 in Kent. You will need to be a confident and flexible practitioner, passionate about improving the health and well‑being of children through delivery of the HealthyChild programme. You will work as part of a team to keep children safe and well by using a good understanding of child development and the importance of play in children’s lives, learning and language development.
Main duties of the job
* Working with clients in a variety of community settings, for example, home, clinic, children's centre, educational establishment etc.
* Completing health and wellbeing reviews, packages of care
* Undertaking growth monitoring for children aged 0‑5 years
* Delivering health promotion activities
* Leading and assisting with the delivery of a variety of Health Visiting clinics and group work, for example, parenting programmes, introducing solids and breastfeeding groups.
* Attending and contributing to team meetings
* Building relationships with colleagues to enhance the team‑working environment
This is a community‑based role; the majority of duties will be carried out between your base and community settings or client homes.
Travel and driving
A full, valid UK driving licence or a full driving licence issued by an EU country (not exchanged from a non‑EU country) is essential. Driving may be required to perform duties. If you are unable to drive due to a disability, please contact the Recruitment Team to discuss support.

Qualifications, training and experience
* A QCF Level 3 qualification (e.g., NVQ Level 3 apprenticeship, BTEC or equivalent international qualification in health care, or equivalent experience).
* Recent experience of child development gained through education, work experience or previous employment.
* Functional skills at Level 2 (literacy and numeracy/ GCSE grade A‑C/ 4‑9 or equivalent in English and Maths).
* Care Certificate.
Knowledge and skills
* Sound communication skills in both verbal and written form, mindful of potential language and cultural difficulties.
* A customer‑focused approach.
* Ability to use IT systems and databases.
* Ability to remain professional, work well under pressure and organise own work to prioritise care delivery in line with trust policies and procedures.
* Knowledge of up‑to‑date clinical practice and evidence‑based procedures.
* Full understanding of the role and remit of a public health assistant.
* Awareness of developments within the NHS.
Working environment
* A full, valid UK driving licence or a full driving licence issued by an EU country (not exchanged from a non‑EU country) and the ability to travel independently are essential for this role.
Disclosure and Barring Service Check
