Contract Type: Permanent
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Sustainability Team at Merseyside Police.
We are seeking an individual who has either experience embedding sustainability practices in the workplace and/or holds a minimum of A Levels (or equivalent) in a relevant subject.
As a large metropolitan police force, we recognise that our activities can have a significant impact on the environment and communities we serve. We are therefore committed to continually improving our efficiency and reducing this impact, with a strong focus on embedding sustainability across all areas of our operations.
Our dedicated team comprises a Sustainability Manager, a Sustainability Monitoring Officer, and a Sustainability Promotion & Reporting Officer. Together, we drive Merseyside Police's commitment to operating as a sustainable organisation, reducing our environmental impact, strengthening relationships with local communities, and supporting regional economic growth by helping create a safe and thriving place to live and work.
The Sustainability Promotion & Reporting Officer reports to the Force Sustainability Monitoring Officer and plays a key role in supporting the development, implementation, monitoring, and communication of the Merseyside Police Sustainability Policy, Sustainability Strategy, and Net Zero Strategy.
While the post contributes to all areas of sustainability, the primary focus is environmental sustainability. This includes reducing carbon emissions, strengthening our approach to the circular economy through improved procurement practices, and ensuring effective contract management across areas such as waste, renewable energy, and water.
Key role responsibilities:
Assisting the Sustainability Monitoring Officer with managing the Force waste and recycling and confidential waste contracts, ensuring legal compliance is always met whilst seeking to identify sustainable, efficient routes for reuse, recycle or disposal, adopting a circular economy approach.
Organising and maintaining the collection and monitoring of utility, waste and renewable energy generation data via a combination of software and staff data provision. Assisting the Sustainability Monitoring Officer with the analysis of half hourly gas and electricity consumption data at Force sites to provide recommendations for actions to improve efficiency and support the development of capital projects.
Providing support with the production of quarterly financial utility forecasting reports which provide site profiles of all utility consumption and financial costs for the current financial year.
Developing and supporting the promotion of sustainability good practice and legal compliance through the production of a Force Sustainability Communications Plan. The Plan will include the development of Force wide campaigns aimed at encouraging staff to act more sustainably through the dissemination of key messages across Force using a variety of platforms.
Assisting in the management of Force furniture and white goods reuse and recycling scheme, including the day to day responsibility for running the Warpit software, liaising with staff regarding furniture requests and arranging for furniture to be moved around Force.
The role will involve a combination of office and site based activities, therefore any applicant must have a reasonable level of fitness and a full driving license.
