We are looking for a Test Engineer to manage and develop our rolling stock testing capability, ensuring train components are reliable, safe and fit for service.
This is a hands‑on engineering role combining testing, fault investigation, reliability improvement and technical development, supporting both day‑to‑day operations and longer‑term fleet performance.
You will play a key role in reducing unnecessary component repairs, improving system reliability, and enhancing in‑house technical capability.
What You’ll Do
* Develop and implement test processes and equipment to support fleet reliability
* Manage and operate rolling stock test equipment and facilities
* Diagnose faults and verify component performance to reduce unnecessary external repairs
* Support in‑house repair capability development for train components
* Work with Production, Stores and Engineering teams to ensure parts are fit for service
* Analyse failure and reliability data to identify improvement opportunities
* Support technical investigations with suppliers, including site visits where required
* Contribute to technical documentation, including maintenance and test instructions
* Support engineering projects and technical change (CAP process)
* Assist in improving fleet performance and system reliability
What You’ll Need
* Degree or higher qualification in Engineering (or equivalent)
* Strong understanding of engineering principles, testing and fault finding
* Excellent technical writing and communication skills
* Experience working in an engineering, maintenance or technical environment
* Working towards or ability to achieve IEng or CEng accreditation
* Experience with rolling stock, rail or similar complex systems
* Knowledge of diagnostic or engineering software tools
