Job Title: Operations Manager - Healthcare


Location: Chelmsford – Hybrid Working (4 days in office - 1 day remote with some on-site and weekends when new projects go live).


Accountable to:

* CEO
* Director of Performance



Responsible for:

* Leading and co-ordinating the operations team (Account Managers, Staffing, Recruitment and Administrative teams) to deliver clinical insourcing projects across multiple specialties and sites, supporting the NHS in reducing surgical backlogs by optimising underutilised theatre capacity.
* Driving the strategic mobilisation, implementation and ongoing management of insourcing projects, ensuring seamless integration with technology solutions to enhance operational efficiency.
* Working with the Director of Performance in overseeing project budgets, monitoring financial performance, and ensuring cost-effective delivery while maintaining high-quality clinical outcomes.
* Fostering strong collaboration with clinical, administrative, and technology teams to align workflows with organisational goals and NHS stakeholder expectations.
* Building and maintaining client relationships to ensure smooth project delivery and client satisfaction, adhering to all pre-determined KPIs.


Purpose of Role:

The Operations Manager will play a pivotal role in leading the operations team, driving insourcing projects, and integrating technology to streamline patient pathways. This role requires a dynamic leader who combines strategic vision, commercial acumen, and a collaborative mindset to deliver measurable value to patients, partners, and the organisation.


Key Responsibilities:

* Leadership and Team Management: Provide direction, accountability and leadership to the operations team, fostering a positive, collaborative, and meritocratic culture
* Project Delivery: Oversee the end-to-end delivery of clinical insourcing projects, ensuring timely and efficient execution across multiple sites and specialties.
* Technology Integration: Act as a conduit between operations and technology teams, embedding core technologies into workflows to optimise processes and enhance project outcomes.
* Patient Pathway Optimisation: Collaborate with clinical staff and the directors to design and implement efficient patient pathways, leveraging technology to improve care delivery and operational performance.
* Financial Oversight: Develop and manage project budgets, monitor income, expenditure, and cost efficiencies, and implement corrective actions to mitigate financial risks and ensure sustainability.
* Performance Monitoring: Extract and analyse data-driven insights from projects to drive continuous improvement, reporting key metrics to senior leadership and clients.
* Client and Stakeholder Engagement: Build strong relationships with NHS stakeholders and clients, addressing their needs with professionalism,empathy, and proactive problem-solving.
* Proactive Risk Management: Anticipate operational challenges, identify variations in service delivery (e.g. activity, capacity, performance), and implement timely solutions to maintain excellence.


Experience and Qualifications:

Essential:

* Proven experience in operations or project management within a healthcare setting, with a track record of leading complex, multi-disciplinary projects.
* Excel and embrace the use of digital tools and technology within the work place
* Strong leadership skills, with experience managing and motivating diverse teams in a supportive, high-performance environment.
* Demonstrated ability to integrate technology solutions into operational workflows to improve efficiency and outcomes.
* Experience in project budgeting and financial performance management, ensuring cost-effective delivery and financial accountability.
* Solid understanding of healthcare systems, ideally with experience working directly with clinicians and NHS stakeholders.


Desirable:

* Experience in private healthcare or hybrid NHS/private models, witha strong understanding of revenue generation and cost control.
* Clinical background (Medical, nursing, allied health) to enhance collaboration and understanding with clinical teams and provide insight into clinical processes.

* People Management: Exceptional ability to lead, inspire, and support clinical and administrative teams, adapting communication styles to suit diverse audiences while demonstrating empathy, emotional intelligence, and analytical rigour.
* Technological Proficiency: Strong ability to adopt and leverage technology to streamline operations, with experience integrating digital tools or platforms into healthcare workflows. Comfortable using project management and data analytics tools to monitor performance and drive improvements.
* Healthcare Expertise: Deep understanding of healthcare operations, ideally with experience in NHS or private sector environments, enabling rapid integration into the company’s systems, processes, and culture.
* Collaborative Mindset: A natural team player who thrives in a values-driven, cooperative environment, fostering cross-team integration with no tolerance for silos.
* Process Improvement: Analytical and solution-focused, with a continuous improvement mindset to identify inefficiencies, analyse problems, and implement effective solutions.
* Confident Communication: Clear, concise communicator, capable of managing upward and downward communication, retaining complex operational data, and presenting insights to senior leadership and frontlineteams.
* Flexibility and Resilience: Highly adaptable, composed under pressure, and able to balance short-term execution with long-term strategic goals while anticipating risks.
* Strategic and Commercial Acumen: Strong understanding of P&L management, balancing high-quality clinical service delivery with operational efficiency and financial sustainability.
