FBD Advisor
The Growth Company’s (GC) Justice Services team are seeking a FBD (Finance, Benefit and Debt) Advisor within the Justice Services of GC, you'll be directly supporting individuals in prison or under probation, a role that is both challenging and deeply rewarding.
People in the justice system often face complex financial issues that can be overwhelming and act as barriers to rehabilitation.
This is a part time role of 18.50 hours per week.
As an FBD Advisor, you will help individuals:
1. Regain control over their finances, which is a crucial step toward rebuilding their lives.
2. Reduce stress and anxiety related to debt and financial instability.
3. Improve their chances of successful reintegration into society by ensuring they have access to the financial support they’re entitled to.
This role will be based at the following locations.
4. York and Selby Probation.
5. An element of in-reach delivery into HMP Millsike.
There is travel required for this role so access to a car and a Full UK Driving Licence is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
6. Assist service users with financial issues through capacity building, personal finance management, debt repayment plans, and access to benefits or third-sector support.
7. Work with service users in prison settings to help them access benefits and resolve debt issues.
8. Provide personal spending advice and budgetary skills training.
9. Communicate with utility suppliers, creditors, banks, and credit unions.
10. Develop positive relationships with participants to create action plans.
11. Adapt support to service user learning styles.
12. Ensure progress by following up on service user actions.
13. Advocate for additional support options (., food banks, credit unions).
About you:
14. Communicates clearly and professionally, both in writing and in person.
15. Can remain calm and focused under pressure, delivering high-quality work to tight deadlines.
16. Builds strong working relationships and collaborates effectively with colleagues and stakeholders.
17. Is confident using MI systems, spreadsheets, calendars, and email to manage tasks and information efficiently.
18. Is flexible and willing to travel, with a positive attitude toward adapting to new environments and challenges.
19. Brings confidence and self-motivation, showing initiative and a proactive approach to their work.
Skills Required:
20. Have a Full UK Driving Licence with access to a car.
21. Experience in training, advice, guidance, and counselling.
22. Experience working with ex-offenders and/or people from marginalised groups with barriers to support.
23. Knowledge of debt issues and personal finance mismanagement.
24. Proven ability to meet targets in high-performance environments.
25. Familiarity with the welfare-to-work sector and its customer base.
26. Knowledge of training, education, and employment opportunities.
27. High level of administrative accuracy and data security.
