Main area Radiology Grade NHS AfC: Band 3 Contract Permanent to cover a 7 day service 52 weeks of the year. Hours: Full time or Part time. 37.5 hours per week (Full time and Part time positions available. Will include weekend and evenings sessions). Job ref 409-7808397

Job overview

An exciting opportunity as radiography department assistants to join the Radiology Department and be based primarily at the Whiston and St Helens sites of MWL Teaching Hospitals.

There are full time and part time positions available. The department provides a 7-day imaging service across MWL sites, therefore the post will include evening, weekend and bank holiday duties.

The role will include assisting qualified staff during radiographic, CT and MRI procedures to include patient care, IV cannulation and clerical duties.

The role is interesting and varied; candidates must be keen to learn, enjoy a challenge and have the ability to use their own initiative. Good communication skills and a caring nature are essential.

Main duties of the job

* Provide assistance during imaging procedures as directed by a suitably qualified practitioner and co-ordinate inpatient transfer for all imaging modalities.
* The team provides radiological services to Health community, providing inpatient, outpatient and GP services to a broad spectrum of client/patient groups.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

KEY DUTIES

* AssistRadiology clinical staff in all imaging examinations
* Support the Radiology clinical staff in maintaining high standards of care
* Accept responsibility for delegated functions within the imaging department appropriate for untrained staff
* Assist patients throughout imaging attendance
* Prepare imaging rooms and trolleys for clinical examinations
* Preparation of intravenous and oral contrast per departmental protocol
* Intravenous cannulation prior to imaging examinations
* Assist in cross sectional imaging by positioning patients and loading injector with contrast
* Coordinate inpatient transfer to and from Radiology for all imaging modalities
* Liaise with wards and departments to confirm mode of transport; organise portering staff
* Observe patients in waiting area
* Clean clinical equipment contacted with body fluids
* Maintain a safe, infection-free patient environment
* Undertake household support tasks
* Report equipment malfunctions
* Establish and maintain effective communication with patients during procedures
* Maintain a patient and courteous manner in all communications

CLINICAL & PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

* Adhere to all departmental and trust SOPs and policies
* Maintain privacy and dignity of patients

ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES

* Accurate data entry on Radiology Information System
* Ensure data quality (name, date of birth, address, postcode, GP and telephone) is current

TEACHING & TRAINING RESPONSIBILITIES

* Assist in induction of new radiography helpers
* Attend relevant training courses
* Maintain own personal development

RESEARCH & AUDIT

* Participate in departmental audit and research programmes
