Main duties of the job
As a Healthcare Assistant in our Inpatient Unit, you will provide personalised care and support to patients with personal care, mobility and nutritional needs. Working alongside registered nurses and the wider multidisciplinary team, you will help deliver holistic, person-centred care that promotes dignity, comfort and quality of life. You will provide emotional support and reassurance to patients and families during challenging times, assist with clinical observations, and accurately document care delivered. You will also contribute to maintaining a safe, compassionate and supportive environment for patients receiving palliative and end of life care.

Ashgate Hospice offers free, specialist, compassionate care for adults living with life-limiting or incurable illnesses, including cancer, neurological diseases, and advanced heart, kidney and lung conditions. Based in North Derbyshire, we support people and those important to them through a range of free and fee‑paying services. Each year, we support over 2,640 people, helping them to manage symptoms, stay informed about their care, and maintain the best possible quality of life from diagnosis onwards. We also provide vital support to those important to them, including practical and emotional support, as well as bereavement care when someone has died.

Additional information:
* Day shifts: 07:00–19:30
* Night shifts: 19:00–07:30
* Shorter day shifts may be available to support flexibility
* Twilight shifts (tbc) may also be required
* Participation in a rotational rota, with at least 8 weeks’ notice
This role does not meet the criteria for Skilled Worker (Tier 2) visa sponsorship. A DBS check will be required as part of the pre‑employment process. We encourage staff vaccination against COVID‑19 and flu unless exempt.
Person Specification
* GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent)
* Care Certificate or willingness to complete
* Experience providing personal care in a healthcare or care setting
* Understanding of compassionate, person‑centred care
* Good communication and teamwork skills
* Ability to work within role boundaries and prioritise workload
* Ability to communicate sensitively with patients and families
* Ability to document care accurately
* Reliable, flexible and professional approach
* Commitment to learning and development
* Commitment to Ashgate Hospice values
* Level 2/3 Health and Social Care qualification
* Experience in palliative, hospice or end of life care
* Experience using electronic patient records systems such as SystmOne

£25,667 to £25,997 a year (Salary is based on the full time equivalent of 37.5 hours)
