Healthcare Support Worker

Grade 8, points 15-18

This Healthcare worker is required from 21st August 2025 to work across school to primarily manage the day to day health needs of pupils at Birkett House. The main proportion of this role is drawing up & administering prescribed medication for children & young people with additional needs, including prescribed emergency medication. Ideally this would suit a candidate with prior experience in a health or care setting. Other elements of this role include delivering training to staff, working with external agencies, parents/carers & colleagues to reduce complex health needs as a barrier to learning.

Birkett House School is a special school for 252 pupils with a wide range of needs. We are looking to recruit a Healthcare Support Worker who;

You must have the following qualifications:

• Relevant NVQ level 3 qualification (or equivalent) or willingness to undertake

•Level 2 NVQ Maths / English

Ideally, you will be trained to minimum Level 2, Handling of Medication, however training would be provided to the right candidate.

Ultimately, you will be required to:

•Responsible for maintaining protocols and administrating all medication including prescribed emergency medication this includes booking in & safe storage.

•Be willing to respond to emergency situations as and when needed.

•Liaise with the Diana Team and the Diana School Nurse to organise training & assessments of school staff.

•Act as a ‘signpost’ for families to address healthcare concerns & ensure the correct protocols are in place.

•Keep accurate records.

•Coordinate health care training for staff.

•Responsible for ‘Train the Trainer’ providing first aid courses to classroom staff. (Appropriate training will be provided to the right candidate).

•Contribute to the meetings & assessments of children’s and young people’s health and well-being alongside qualified staff

•Ensure effective day-to-day communication in respect of children’s health and care management with parents / cares of your school.

•Contribute to effective systems of clinical governance

•Meet competency requirements identified within the role and participate effectively in the personal development planning process and reflective practice

Contract type: Term time only (+ 5 training days)

Contract term: Full time, Permanent

Hours: 32.50 hours a week

Grade: Grade 8, points 15 – 18 (FTE £27,717 - £30,066)

Actual salary: £20,837 (pro rata of F.T.E. £27,717)
