Temporary Works Engineer
Major UK Infrastructure Project (Sellafield region)
£60,000 – £70,000 + Company Car or Car Allowance

Are you a Temporary Works Engineer looking to play a key role on one of the UK’s most complex and high-profile infrastructure programmes? This is a fantastic opportunity to join a technically driven engineering team where safety, innovation, and collaboration genuinely matter.
Working within a large, multidisciplinary project environment, you’ll take ownership of temporary works design, checking, and procedures, supporting safe and efficient delivery across site activities.
The Role
Reporting to the Project Engineering Manager, you’ll be responsible for managing temporary works processes from concept through to implementation. You’ll collaborate closely with site engineers, designers, and client teams to ensure compliance, quality, and constructability at every stage.
Key responsibilities include:
* Producing and/or checking temporary works designs (and simple permanent works where required)
* Managing temporary works procedures in line with project and client standards
* Coordinating internal and external designers
* Carrying out independent technical reviews, hazard identification, and risk assessments
* Ensuring compliance with Sellafield Ltd procedures
* Liaising with Principal Designers and other stakeholders
* Managing change control and providing progress reports
* Contributing to learning-from-experience, safety-in-design initiatives, and best practice forums
What We’re Looking For
Essential:
* Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and design processes
* Minimum 12 months’ experience in a consultancy or temporary works design environment
* Membership of a relevant professional institution (e.g. MICE or equivalent)
* Knowledge of Principal Designer duties, including ERIC
* Ability to deputise for the Principal Engineer when required
* A proactive, accountable, and safety-first mindset
Desirable:
* Experience working on highly regulated or nuclear-sector projects
* Active involvement in Temporary Works Forums or similar professional groups
