Overview

Principal Clinical/Counselling Psychologist role at Islet Systems. Based at Franklyn Hospital in Exeter. This newly configured role provides clinical input and leadership to the dementia ward.

The successful candidate will join a supportive team and work under the Inpatient Psychology Professional Lead, with potential links to other Psychologists across the county and Arts Psychotherapists in Exeter wards. Applications are welcome from newly qualified Psychologists on a band 7-8a preceptorship basis.


Job Responsibilities

* Contribute a psychological perspective to the leadership, organisation and operation of inpatient dementia services.
* Ensure the systematic provision of a high quality psychological service in inpatient wards and community settings as part of integrated mental health and wellbeing services.
* Provide clinical leadership and supervision for less experienced staff, trainees and volunteers within the psychology service.
* Carry a specialist caseload and provide advice and consultancy to patients and professionals.
* Work autonomously within professional guidelines and oversee governance of psychological practice as lead specialist.
* Receive regular professional and clinical supervision in line with Trust policy and Professional Practice Guidelines (e.g., British Psychological Society).
* Observe and abide by relevant Professional Codes of Conduct; maintain HCPC registration as a condition of employment.
* Contribute to trauma-informed dementia care, training, CPD and delivery of a responsive, high-quality clinical service.
* Possibility to conduct extended assessments, formulation, brief interventions and work with families and staff teams.
* Contribute to placements for Trainee Practitioner Psychologists and Psychotherapists.


Qualifications

* Essential: Qualified Practitioner Psychologist (DClin.Psychol. or equivalent) and eligible for Chartered Status with the British Psychological Society. Registered as a Practitioner Psychologist with HCPC; or Masters-level qualification in a psychotherapy or psychological therapy with accreditation by an appropriate body.
* Desirable: Further training in clinical specialisms, neuropsychological assessment, supervision, or additional psychological therapies.


Experience

* Essential: Experience working in Older Persons Mental Health Services and in both community and inpatient settings for older people with complex mental health needs; experience in teaching, training and/or supervision; leadership within psychology services in NHS and in multi-disciplinary settings; experience with complex trauma; experience in diversity awareness and social inequality.
* Desirable: Experience in neuropsychological assessment; proficiency in individual and group therapy approaches.


Knowledge and Skills

* Excellent verbal, nonverbal and written communication.
* Strong leadership, resilience and ability to handle ambiguity.
* Conflict management, negotiation and consensus-building in complex contexts.
* Ability to integrate complex data, make evaluations and decisions with a long-term perspective.
* Organisational, planning and time management skills; ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
* Advanced psychological assessment and formulation skills and risk assessment.
* Desirable: project management skills/experience.
