Precision Engineer / Tool Maker – Corby – Monday to Friday Working hours 0800–1630 + Overtime – £17.00–£20.00 per hour (£35,300–£41,600) DOE
We are seeking an experienced Precision Engineer or tool maker to join a small but established traditional engineering business. The company manufactures high precision components used primarily in the food and logistics industries. The successful person will work in a traditional engineering machine shop producing high‑precision components and parts using manual milling and turning machines. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced precision engineer / toolmaker who takes pride in precision craftsmanship and enjoys hands‑on work.
Key Responsibilities
* Operate manual machining equipment including lathes, milling machines, grinders, and semi‑manual CNC machines to cut and shape materials.
* Manufacture parts and components used in a variety of industries, primarily food and logistics.
* Read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications to create components and parts with extremely tight tolerances.
* Inspect finished parts using measuring equipment (verniers, micrometres, gauges).
* Maintain, repair and modify tools and components to ensure optimal performance.
* Work with other team members to achieve production targets.
* Document records for quality and traceability.
Required Skills & Experience
To be considered for this role, the candidate must be resident in the UK with right to work documentation in place as the client does not offer sponsorship.
* Precision engineer experienced in milling and turning using manual machines and lathes.
* Knowledge of XYZ machines would be advantageous.
* Time‑served apprenticeship in mechanical engineering.
* Strong mechanical aptitude with an understanding of materials such as metals, stainless steel, aluminium, alloys and plastics.
* Ability to work confidently within an engineering environment.
* Good understanding of manual machining and semi‑CNC technologies.
* Proficiency with measuring and inspection equipment.
* Understanding of workshop health & safety practices.
* Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively.
* Strong problem‑solving skills for diagnosing tool failures.
* Full UK driving licence would be ideal as you may have to visit customers from time to time.
