Are you passionate about health, fitness, and supporting recovery? An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Rehabilitation Therapy Service (RTS) within the high‑secure environment of Broadmoor Hospital.
We are dedicated to empowering patients on their recovery journey through meaningful, therapeutic activities that build confidence, skills, and wellbeing. As part of this, our Health and Fitness team plays a vital role in helping patients stay active, improve their physical health, and develop positive lifestyle habits that support long‑term recovery.
We are looking for a motivated and proactive Health and Fitness Supervisor to join our team. Working as one of four supervisors, you will play a key role in leading and supporting staff across shifts to deliver a diverse and engaging programme of physical activities.
To support and encourage patients with acute and enduring mental illness to engage in a variety of different environments, including on Ward Gym, Main Fitness Suite, indoor Sports Hall, Outdoor 3G Polymeric Multi‑Use Games Area and a Fitness Studio.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for the day‑to‑day local leadership of staff in Health and Fitness.
To ensure that the Health and Fitness team offer equal access to all patients in the hospital, identifying sporting activities they can do within their personal health restrictions and personal and environmental risks.
To actively develop and implement new health activities for patients which considers the patient demographic for age, culture and interests, including individualised or group programmes.
To plan sessions in collaboration with the Dietician and Physiotherapy, which support patients with physical limitation and weight issues.
All staff in the team must also contribute to department safety procedures, such as daily searches of patients and the environment, preparation work for sessions, undertaking patient observations, escorting patients and helping to manage patient incompatibilities.

Qualifications and Training
* Good general education with 3 or more CSE, GCSE
* Degree in a relevant sports management field
* OR Sports BTEC, in Coaching NVQ /SVQ level 4/5
* Relevant nationally recognised adult education teaching qualification or sporting and leisure qualification
* Nationally recognisable sporting level 4/5
* Coaching skills
* National Qualification in Leadership and Management
* Motivation and Engagement skills
* Management experience
* Apprenticeship level 4/5 in Leadership, Supervision and PDR training
Experience
* Experience of working with patients in a health setting
* Experience in evaluating patients’ skill level and needs
* Experience as a band 3/4 in a relevant patient care NHS post, including staff management
* Demonstrated ability to role‑model, empower and motivate staff
* Experience working with patients with forensic mental illness and personality disorder
* Supporting effective change management within teams
* Experience line‑managing staff
* Experience in service or treatment audit
* Experience dealing with challenging people
* Experience writing local operational or session protocols in collaboration with others
* Experience leading teams of staff
Knowledge
* Knowledge of risk assessment and management application
* Working knowledge of grading therapeutic/sporting activities to meet patients’ needs
* Applied knowledge of wider NHS papers or policies
* Knowledge of a manager’s duty of candour
* Understanding of recovery and social inclusion in mental health
