Location: ABode Canterbury is a stylish, four AA star 72-bedroom boutique hotel on Canterbury High Street, which houses our own restaurant brand, Brasserie ABode.

For the commuters, Canterbury East and West train stations are just a few minutes’ walk away.

SERVICE CHARGE-We pay our team service charge each month! This service charge all goes into one pot, and 100% of that service charge is then shared amongst all the team at the hotel-every penny received is paid out to the team.

Service charge can be in the region of £115 a month (around £1375 per year) over and above base pay for a full time employee.

Reporting to and working very closely with the Finance Director- this role is key to making sure the finance function runs smoothly and efficiently at the hotels in your remit.

We are seeking a full-time detail-oriented, enthusiasticand experienced Finance Controller to join our fabulous Canterbury hotel team.

The Finance Controller will be responsible for ensuring financial integrity in all activities at the Canterbury Abode Hotel and supporting the General Manager in achieving financial objectives, maintaining compliance and supporting overall business goals.

About the role

This is a hands-on, commercially focused finance position where you will manage the day-to-day management of the hotel’s financial operations, reporting and compliance.

You will be the on the ground finance support in Canterbury but will also work closely with other Regional Financial Controllers and have support of the group finance team.

Check out some of the key points about the role:

1. Supporting budgeting and rolling forecast processes
2. Producing monthly financial reporting and variance analysis
3. Completing month-end reporting packs including P&L, balance sheet and revenue reports
4. Reconciling daily revenues to bank deposits
5. Managing local accounts payable via our purchase ordering system and accounts receivable processes to ensure accuracy and timely processing
6. Monitoring debtors and creditors to maintain healthy cash flow
7. Reviewing costs and highlighting opportunities for improved efficiencies
8. Supporting payroll cost control alongside hotel management
9. Assisting with audit preparation and compliance requirements
10. Collaborating with department heads to provide meaningful financial insight
11. Supporting ad hoc projects and financial analysis as required
12. Occasional travel within the hotel cluster may be required to support audits, financial reviews and attend meetings.

What we are looking for:

13. Experience within a finance role in hotels and/or hospitality
14. Strong attention to detail and good sense of initiative, happy to work independently
15. Confidence working with operational managers
16. Good understanding of budgeting, forecasting and financial reporting
17. A proactive and organised approach
18. Strong IT skills and experience using finance and hotel management systems particularly Opera
19. Most importantly, you’ll bring a collaborative mindset and a genuine interest in supporting operational teams to drive performance.
