Community Support Worker
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the Gedling Local Mental Health Team as a Community Support Worker. You will develop skills and expertise in working with clients aged 18‑65 living in the local community and experiencing severe mental health problems. You will be an integral member of a dynamic multidisciplinary team offering creative and consistently high quality evidence‑based interventions.
Note: This post does not meet the pay level required for a Skilled Worker visa and therefore sponsorship is not available for non‑UK residents.
Main duties of the job
You will contribute to assessments and interventions, undertaking nursing, therapy and social activities as delegated by the relevant profession. You will frequently work without direct supervision in the community and be required to work flexibly and holistically to respond to this group’s needs. You will promote the recovery of patients and collaborate with partner agencies and primary care to ensure timely and safe discharge from secondary care.
Job responsibilities
* Contribute to assessments and interventions for adults with mental health needs in the community.
* Undertake nursing, therapy and social activities as delegated.
* Work independently and flexibly to meet client needs.
* Collaborate with partner agencies and primary care to facilitate discharge.
* Provide accurate and timely reporting of observations and incidents.
Qualifications
* NVQ III in Health and Social Care, Care Certificate or equivalent experience.
* Good basic education and basic IT skills.
* Full UK driving licence and vehicle for business use (reasonable adjustments for disabled individuals).
Experience
* Experience of working in a healthcare setting.
* Desirable: experience caring for older adults with mental health needs.
Knowledge
* Basic understanding of different types of mental illness and a caring approach to patients.
Skills
* Developed observation skills with the ability to record physical/mental health changes accurately and timely.
* Ability to work as part of a team.
* Good verbal and written communication.
* Good prioritisation skills and ability to recognise own limitations.

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and requires submission for DBS check.
Compensation
£25,760 to £27,476 a year (pro rata for part‑time).

Applicants will be required to pay for their DBS check. Costs are deducted from salary following appointment. The cost of the DBS application is £26.40 (standard) or £54.40 (enhanced); this cost will be deducted from your salary over the first 2 months of employment. You are encouraged to enrol for the DBS Update Service. An annual fee of £16 per year applies.
