RM Recruit are supporting a sizable charity in the recruitment of their current Financial Controller vacancy. Overseeing a team of 3 and reporting into the Head of Finance, this position holds responsibility for ensuring efficient and effective financial control operates throughout the organisation, ensuring all regional and central financial processes are fully compliant with legislation, policies and all set internal and external procedures.
This is a hybrid role with 1 day per week required onsite in the West Midlands head office (4 days from home).
Key responsibilities for the Financial Controller will include, but not be limited to:
* Overseeing the month end process, working in collaboration with all finance team members including leading on month end timetables
* Management of both the external audit and the overall year end processes including draft statutory financial statements in accordance with regulatory standards
* Oversight on effective financial control across the organisation, ensuring compliance with legislation, policies, procedures and the relevant delegated authorities.
* Development of rolling cash forecasts in order to optimise cash levels
* Reconciliation of balance sheet accounts and inter-company accounts
* Regular review and oversight of the general ledger, fixed assets, debtors and creditors
* Management and oversight of Restricted and Designated Funds.
* Overall VAT Compliance including HMRC submissions to the HMRC, implementing improvements to the VAT process to ensure the finance systems are compliant with HMRC VAT Rules.
* Maintenance and optimisation of financial systems and software.
* Statutory returns for Charities Commission & Companies House
* Collaborative working with the Head of Finance and regional Business Partners to support the delivery monthly management accounts.
* Via delegation, oversee the management of the payroll function ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation
* Career development for members of the Finance Team under the remit of the postholder
* Development of key financial operational policies via projects set by the Head of Finance
This role will suit a fully qualified (essential) accountant who has proven experience of managing statutory accounting concerns across a large Not for Profit organisation in the capacity of Financial Controller. The senior finance team will rely on the postholder to be the central point of information for all financial accounting, VAT, SORP and statutory submissions. Applicants must be able to work one day per week onsite so are required to be based within a reasonable commute to the Birmingham/West Midlands region.
