A new opportunity has arisen to join our friendly, dedicated General Surgery team. Applications are invited for the post of Trust Doctor (F2 Equivalent Level). This post will be based at the Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle. The role involves working as part of a rota covering surgical services 24/7.
The post holder will be responsible for assessing acute referrals and initiating management plans. There will always be a registrar and a consultant on call (weekdays always available; weekends may involve theatre work but are readily contactable). When not on call, the doctor will support FY1 doctors on the ward and attend post-take ward rounds. They will also be scheduled to attend clinics, theatres, or undertake quality improvement projects to enhance their educational experience.
This position offers the opportunity to gain experience and confidence in diagnosing and managing general surgical emergencies, including procedures in theatres to treat conditions like abscesses, hernias, and appendicitis.
Access to an E-portfolio will be provided for documenting development and competencies. Each doctor will have an Educational Supervisor overseeing their progress, and a clinical supervisor for individual placements. By working through the competencies outlined in the Foundation Programme Curriculum 2016, candidates can work towards achieving competency in all 20 Professional Capabilities.
