The Opportunity
Our Mechanical Engineers work in an interdisciplinary environment aiming to design buildings that maximise value for our clients whilst minimising their environmental impact. Due to an increase in upcoming projects, we are recruiting for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Data Centre team in Manchester, working with clients such as Equinix, HSBC, and Virgin Media. Manchester has recently been hailed as one of the UK’s fastest-growing Data Centre locations and the fastest-growing tech hub in the North of England.
As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will be a key part of the Building Services Engineering Senior Team, managing multidisciplinary projects while providing technical guidance and mentoring to other mechanical engineers. We currently have several significant data centre projects in our region, delivered from the Manchester office. We are part of an extensive Arup data centre network, supporting our clients across the UK & Europe. You will be part of a collaborative team of over 35 engineers and technicians in Manchester and a wider team of 100+ engineers and technicians within the North West & Yorkshire region.
At Arup, you belong to an extraordinary collective – where individuality is encouraged to thrive. Our strength comes from respecting, sharing, and connecting diverse experiences, perspectives, and ideas.
You will have the opportunity to do socially useful work that has meaning – to Arup, your career, our members, and the communities we serve.
Is this role right for you?
If you have a passion for design and enthusiasm for architecture and sustainable building design, Arup is the place for you. In this role, you will apply your engineering expertise to shape our projects while leading multidisciplinary design teams to deliver data centre projects from feasibility to completion. You should have a background in mechanical building services design with experience across various project scales and types, demonstrating commercial awareness and the ability to develop successful client relationships.
You will also contribute to our digital transformation by seeking new ways to increase efficiency through automation and offering new services via our integrated digital approach to design. Our Manchester Building Engineering Services team is working on a range of projects, including the North Manchester Hospital, Manchester Town Hall, Manchester Arena redevelopment, and Liverpool Football Club, allowing you to see your vision and design come to life.
Requirements:
* BSc qualified in Mechanical Services Engineering (or equivalent).
* Chartered Engineer status via an appropriate professional institution such as IMechE or CIBSE (or international equivalent).
* Excellent design and technical skills and experience in design analysis software.
* Experience working within a BIM environment using Revit, with knowledge of parametric design being beneficial.
* Familiarity with managing small teams to ensure successful project delivery.
