Your role:
In this role, you will be meeting and greeting customers and being a friendly point of contact. You will actively promote and develop various events and activities in your branch and across all Wigan Borough Libraries. You will use the Library Management system to support library members, manage stock availability, and assist customers with issuing, renewing, and returning items. You will ensure visitors are directed to the most appropriate service for their enquiry and support some customers with basic digital needs. You will encourage customers to self-serve, promote library services, and accurately record statistics for your branch.
About you:
You should be friendly, approachable, and willing to support a range of customers with their queries. A proactive approach, good communication skills, and the ability to actively seek information to resolve enquiries are essential. You should be familiar with using emails, websites, apps, and common software. Additionally, you should understand how to complete basic online forms and demonstrate how to 'get online' for customers.
About us:
Customer Services deliver a variety of services from Wigan Borough libraries. You will work holistically with customers to help them access services that enable positive life changes, employment, self-reliance, improved health and well-being, and independence.
Staff and managers will support volunteers and assist with complex enquiries. Regular support and guidance will be provided by your branch manager. An alternative volunteering opportunity may be offered after a review period if appropriate. As a digital volunteer, you will have the chance to meet new people, enhance your digital skills, and develop communication and customer service skills useful for future employment applications.
