Overview
The training post provides the opportunity to gain the required experience and qualification(s) needed to register as a pharmacy technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC). Pharmacy technicians develop a high level of expertise in relation to medicines and health and they work as part of healthcare teams in hospitals, manufacturing units, community pharmacies and GP practices. They focus on management and use of medicines to make sure all types of people get the best outcomes from their medicines. They lead teams delivering medicines service. During the training you will be expected to gain experience reflecting the changing and growing roles of the Pharmacy Technician. Successful completion of the programme enables you to apply to the General Pharmaceutical Council for registration as a pharmacy technician and to apply for jobs as a pharmacy technician.
Roles & Responsibilities
The role of the Pharmacy Technician is varied and interesting and continuously developing new roles, which is why we are offering this opportunity to explore this innovative role in a rotational training programme. You will gain experience in a hospital setting dispensing for in‑patients and out‑patients, purchasing and distribution, and ward‑based work. You will rotate between community hospital sites and GP surgeries as part of cross‑sector training. You will also have opportunities to participate in a project week at a different site or in primary care, undertake audits and present findings as part of your training. This role requires travelling between different health board sites.
Qualifications & Experience
* Essential
o 4 GCSEs A‑C including Maths, English and Science
o Ability to work in a team, organise self, good IT skills, health and safety awareness
o Aware of working within limits, professional attitude, patient care focus
* Desirable
o Evidence of academic study and continuing professional development after leaving school (e.g., NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services)
o Experience working within hospital and/or community pharmacy or within the NHS
o Ability to speak Welsh
o Knowledge of pharmacy services and the role of a pharmacy technician
o Willingness to work in a bilingual area
o Ability to travel for training purposes
