An opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic Theatre Support Worker to join the team in theatres at Southport theatres!
Full Time - Fixed Term 12 Months
The job involves a high level of cleaning, maintenance and preparation of the theatre suite, as well as the safe and timely transport of patients to and from the Operating Theatre. The use of floor buffers and scrubbing machines is a requirement of the job, as is cleaning the staff restrooms and changing rooms.
Enhanced DBS with barred lists for both Adults & Children is required for this post.
Due to current service demands, we are only able to consider applicants who have relevant UK experience. Candidates must also be available to commence employment immediately or within a very short timeframe.
Main duties of the job
* Assist in the collection and return of patients and their belongings to and from Theatre Department, wards, diagnostic services, post anaesthesia unit.
* Collection and replacement of medical gases, transfer of blood components, linen, beds, trolleys, theatre equipment and pharmacy deliveries.
* Responsibility for environmental cleanliness.
* Inspection of patient transportation equipment. Transfer of faulty equipment to EBME.
* Dispose of clinical and non-clinical waste including dirty linen as per Trust protocols.
* Stocking and cleaning areas out of housekeeping checklist (for example storage cabinets).
* Assist in checking of the fire safety equipment in the department.
* Adhere to Trust and Departmental Policies and Procedures.
* Maintain confidentiality in matters relating to patients and staff.
* Specimen transportation as required.
* Keep fluid store area clean and tidy, dispose of empty boxes.
* Deliver on-call sheets and theatre lists as required.
Person specification
Qualifications
* Educated to GCSE/Level 2 in Maths and English.
* NVQ Level 2 in Health Care, or equivalent qualification/experience, or willing to work towards.
Knowledge & Experience
* An understanding of the role Theatre Support Worker.
* Experience of working within a healthcare environment.
* Knowledge of Infection control principles.
* Knowledge of Health and Safety principles.
Skills
* Motivation and initiative to work alone and within a team.
* Able to organise and ensure that the environment is conducive to health care.
* Polite, approachable with patients, staff and visitors.
* Maintain confidentiality.
* Basic IT Skills.
* High level of personal integrity.
* Possess the ability to manage own workload with a supervisor available at all times for support.

* Ability to use information systems.

* There is a frequent requirement for lifting, pushing and pulling for substantial proportion of the working day when cleaning, stock control and bed making.

* Continue to think clearly in possible situations when talking to patients with high levels of emotions and stress.
