Education Manager (HMP Peterborough)
The Education Manager will provide strong, visible leadership across the Education, Skills and Work function at HMP Peterborough. The role is responsible for ensuring high‑quality education delivery that meets Ofsted and contractual standards, while driving continuous improvement and positive learner outcomes. Working closely with internal teams and external partners, the postholder will lead curriculum development, quality assurance, and staff performance to create an effective, engaging, and rehabilitative learning environment. This is a key leadership role in supporting prisoner progression, rehabilitation, and successful resettlement outcomes.
HMP Peterborough is the UK's first purpose built prison to house both men and women on the same site. With high levels of physical security, it provides needs‑led personal development services tailored to both populations. As a resettlement‑focused establishment, it offers a wide range of educational, vocational and behavioural programmes, alongside workshops, accredited training and employment opportunities that build practical skills for release. The site also includes dedicated healthcare, family services and faith facilities to support overall well‑being.
Main Responsibilities
* Provide strong leadership and management to the Education team, ensuring high performance, accountability, and consistent delivery across all staff groups.
* Design, implement, and continuously improve a responsive curriculum that meets learner needs, employer demand, and prison education priorities.
* Ensure full compliance with Ofsted standards, contractual requirements, and internal quality frameworks, acting as Lead IQA for all qualifications.
* Monitor, evaluate, and report on performance data including retention, achievement, and learner progress, ensuring accuracy across all systems.
* Drive high‑quality teaching, learning, and assessment through staff development, observations, quality assurance, and continuous professional development.
* Build and maintain strong relationships with internal departments, prison stakeholders, and external partners to support effective service delivery and learner engagement.
The Ideal Candidate
* Proven experience in senior leadership within education, training, or a regulated learning environment.
* Recognised teaching qualification (e.g. DET, PGCE or equivalent).
* Strong track record of improving teaching, learning, and learner outcomes through effective curriculum leadership.
* Experience of quality assurance processes, including Ofsted or similar inspection frameworks.
* Ability to lead, develop, and motivate teams in a challenging, fast‑paced environment.
* Strong analytical skills with experience using data to drive performance, compliance, and continuous improvement.
* The successful candidate will be required to undergo an Enhanced Level 2 and Advanced DBS check.
Package Description
Up to £45,000 per annum, dependent up on skills, experience and qualifications.

37.5 hours per week
