Plymouth City Council is seeking to appoint a Specialist in Public Health to join its Public Health Directorate.
Plymouth offers an exciting public health challenge.
As a coastal city with significant deprivation, the successful applicant will have the opportunity to apply creativity and innovation to the support of health and wellbeing for a population of approximately 265,000 in Plymouth.
Plymouth City Council, and its partners across the city, have taken a system-wide approach to the development of a ‘vibrant waterfront city where an outstanding quality of life is enjoyed by everyone’, as described in our corporate plan. Being a unitary Council, there is significant scope to influence across the whole system to influence the core determinants of health. Plymouth has been pioneering whole-systems approaches for many years (see for example the Plymouth Plan and the Plymouth Alliance for Complex Lives) and our integrated commissioning approach means that services are designed around the needs of people.
We are seeking an appropriately qualified public health professional who has the energy and drive to make a major contribution to improving health and reducing inequalities in Plymouth. As well as having a relevant post graduate qualification (or work‑based experience equivalent to this level), the successful candidate will have experience of leading, developing, commissioning, implementing and evaluating public health strategic development, programmes and initiatives.
Responsibilities
* The public health lead for the drug and alcohol treatment, recovery and prevention system.
* Lead drug and alcohol services commissioning and associated budget management.
* Work closely with partners within The Plymouth Alliance for Complex Lives, the Plymouth Drugs Strategic Partnership and wider partners supporting people experiencing multiple disadvantage.
* Manage the Plymouth Local Drug Information System to ensure a coordinated response to potential drug incidents.
