About the Role
Roche Diagnostics is seeking a highly skilled Electro-Mechanical Engineer to join our team as a Laboratory Support Coordinator. This field-based role supports NHS hospitals across Gateshead, South Tyneside, and Sunderland, ensuring the reliability and performance of diagnostic and laboratory equipment critical to patient care.
You will provide frontline technical, applications, and IT support, resolving complex issues efficiently while minimizing downtime across analytical systems. The role requires a proactive engineer with excellent problem-solving abilities and the confidence to engage directly with laboratory and clinical staff.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver on-site service, maintenance, and technical support across multiple NHS hospital sites.
* Troubleshoot electro-mechanical and analytical system issues to minimize unplanned downtime.
* Provide applications and IT support to laboratory systems, ensuring data integrity and network connectivity.
* Conduct technical training sessions for laboratory staff to promote best practices in instrument operation.
* Work collaboratively with Roche technical teams to maintain service excellence and continuous improvement.
* Adhere to all quality, safety, and regulatory standards within the IVD and medical device sector.
Required Qualifications & Skills
* Degree or HNC/HND in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent demonstrable experience.
* Proven experience as an Electro-Mechanical Engineer or Field Service Engineer within diagnostics, medical devices, or laboratory environments.
* Strong diagnostic, troubleshooting, and analytical skills with hands-on experience supporting complex instrumentation.
* Familiarity with the In Vitro Diagnostics (IVD) industry and understanding of NHS laboratory workflows.
* Excellent communication, teamwork, and stakeholder management skills.
* Resilient and adaptable under pressure, with an agile and growth-oriented mindset.
* Must have right to work in the UK and ability to travel between NHS sites across the North region.
Desirable Skills
* Experience with Roche Diagnostics systems or comparable analytical platforms (e.g., Siemens Healthineers, Abbott, Beckman Coulter).
* Prior exposure to IT or applications support in laboratory environments.
* Proven track record in training end-users or laboratory personnel.
* Understanding of NHS pathology services and quality systems.
Ideal Candidate Profile
We are looking for a hands-on, customer-focused engineer with a strong foundation in electro-mechanical diagnostics. You should be confident working independently across multiple hospital sites, have a genuine interest in supporting laboratory operations, and demonstrate professionalism in clinical settings.
