We are looking for a Pharmacy Technician to join our friendly practice on a permanent basis. You will work as part of the Kings Medical team- made up of two GP partners, a two Practice Nurses, a Health Care Assistants and Administerial Staff. We are a medical training practice and you will also work alongside Registrars, FY2 Doctors and medical students.
Main duties of the job
Main Purpose of the Role
To support medication management, improve patient safety, and reduce GP workload by handling prescription‑related and medicines optimisation tasks.
Key Responsibilities
Medication Management
* Asset with drug reductions and weaning
* Ensure prescriptions follow local and national guidelines
* Identify medication errors or discrepancies
* Answer medication queries from patients
* Provide advice on correct medicine use
* Review prescribing data and cost‑effective alternatives
* Support clinical audits
Multidisciplinary Working
* Liaise with community pharmacies
* Work with GPs, nurses, and clinical pharmacists
* Communicate with secondary care teams regarding medication changes
Job responsibilities
Key Duties and Responsibilities
* Process and authorise repeat prescriptions in line with practice protocols
* Undertake medication reconciliation following hospital discharge
* Identify discrepancies or safety concerns in prescribing
* Support management of high‑risk medicines (e.g., anticoagulants, DMARDs)
* Respond to medication queries from patients
* Provide advice on correct medicine use and storage
* Support long‑term condition medication reviews (e.g., asthma, hypertension, diabetes)
3. Clinical Governance & Safety
* Assist with prescribing audits and quality improvement initiatives
* Monitor compliance with local and national prescribing guidelines
* Support implementation of safety alerts and MHRA updates
* Ensure accurate coding and documentation in clinical systems (e.g., EMIS, SystmOne)
4. Multidisciplinary Working
* Liaise with community pharmacies regarding prescription queries
* Communicate medication changes with hospitals and care homes
* Work collaboratively with GPs, nurses, and clinical pharmacists
5. Administrative Duties
* Support stock management and ordering (if applicable)
* Contribute to practice policies relating to medicines management
Qualifications
* Level 3 Diploma in Pharmacy Services
* Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
* Experience in community or hospital pharmacy
* Good IT and organisational skills
* Strong attention to detail
* Experience working in GP or primary care
* Knowledge of medicines optimisation
* Understanding of QOF and prescribing targets
