Job Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced senior Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join our Trauma Orthopaedic inpatient service at Aintree Hospital, managing patients from admission through rehabilitation and discharge across a 7‑day rota.

They will provide senior support to the team led by the Band 7 OT and Physiotherapist. Applicants must possess excellent communication, organisational, supervisory and leadership skills.


Main Duties

* Provide a high standard Occupational Therapy service to patients with orthopaedic conditions.
* Be knowledgeable in the management of patients presenting with a wide range of orthopaedic conditions and provide educational/supervisory service to fellow physiotherapists, patients, relatives and other healthcare professionals.
* Complete specialist orthopaedic assessment and treatment of patients who may have complex and/or chronic presentations, determining clinical diagnosis and OT treatment.
* Work cohesively within a multidisciplinary team to ensure a holistic and co‑ordinated approach to patient care.
* Manage own caseload and be responsible for junior members in supporting, prioritising and delegating caseload.
* Support in supervisory, teaching and education of team members and be a Clinical Educator for students on clinical placement.
* Contribute to operational management of the team and deputise for the team leaders in their absence, liaising with Therapy Managers.
* Utilise evidence‑based practice and support orthopaedic service development and audits; provide recommendations for change.

Detailed Job Description and Responsibilities

* Undertake Occupational Therapy assessment, diagnose and implement treatment plans, evaluating care delivery for routine and complex patients.
* Advise, assist and educate Junior OT, students and other team members in routine patient management.
* Ensure effective communication with patients, carers and all other Health & Social Care Professionals regarding patient care.
* Participate in Departmental Planned Out of Hours weekend working.
* Represent OT/therapy team at Multidisciplinary Meetings to ensure coordinated service delivery.
* Attend ward rounds and clinics, assessing, advising and treating patients as required.
* Carry out environmental and discharge assessments.


Person Specification

Essential Criteria

* Diploma/Degree in Occupational Therapy or equivalent.
* HCPC Registration.
* Post‑registration experience in a junior rotational post providing broad expertise in musculoskeletal/medical‑surgical conditions.
* Evidence of contribution to clinical education of less experienced staff, students or assistants.
* Evidence of participation in audit.
* Evidence of advanced skills required to plan complex and rapid discharges.
* Sound clinical knowledge and specialist skills relevant to the clinical caseload.
* Broad knowledge of current best practice in Occupational Therapy.
* Understanding of the legal responsibilities of the profession.
* Ability to manage own workload, prioritise and delegate tasks.
* Effective written and oral communication skills.
* Ability to keep accurate, legible patient notes.
* Teaching / Presentations at In‑service level.
* Able to evaluate and be critical of self.

Desirable Criteria

* Member of Special Interest Group.
* Competent IT Skills.
* Flexible and open to change.
