Position: Controller – Heirloom Fair Legal
Location: London, Manchester, or Warrington
Heirloom Fair Legal is an ambitious, forward-thinking firm that leverages technology to ethically and efficiently offer Finance, Adjudication, Insurance and Representation services to UK consumer claimants. With determined growth targets and an entrepreneurial ethos, Heirloom Fair Legal (HFL) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Controller to join our organization. This pivotal role will oversee the financial management and compliance functions across HFL’s law firm, finance division, and insurance division. The successful candidate will also serve as the COFA for its law firm, ensuring compliance with all regulatory frameworks, while driving financial efficiency and operational excellence across all entities within the HFL Group.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Leadership and Oversight:
·Implement and manage a comprehensive Financial Management Accounting (FMA) system to serve the needs of the HFL Group and its subsidiaries.
·Consolidate and oversee financial management across all group entities, ensuring seamless integration and consistency.
·Develop and complete budgets for each entity, delivering accurate forecasting, variance analysis, and actionable insights to leadership.
·Lead the cash flow management, working capital optimization, and financial planning processes across all divisions.
·Produce consolidated financial statements, KPIs, and detailed management reports for the HFL Group’s leadership team.
·Oversee the preparation and coordination of internal and external audits for all entities.
·Act as the primary contact for relationships with external stakeholders, including banks, auditors, and tax authorities, ensuring smooth communication and operations.
·Provide leadership and mentoring to the finance teams across all group entities, fostering a culture of accountability, compliance, and excellence.
Compliance and Regulation:
·Ensuring compliance with Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) Accounts Rules and reporting breaches where necessary.
·Oversee compliance with financial regulations for all group entities, including the finance and insurance divisions, ensuring adherence to industry-specific standards.
·Manage client account operations for the law firm, ensuring proper segregation of funds, accurate reconciliations, and compliance audits.
·Stay current on relevant legal, finance, and insurance regulatory changes and implement necessary updates across the HFL Group.
Process and Efficiency Improvement:
·Design and implement standardized financial processes, controls, and reporting systems across the group to drive efficiency and transparency.
·Collaborate with divisional teams to optimize workflows, including billing, collections, and expense management.
·Spearhead the selection, setup, and management of appropriate banking systems to support the group’s operational and financial needs.
·Leverage technology to enhance financial reporting, compliance tracking, and operational efficiency.
Qualifications and Experience
·7–10 years of senior financial management experience, with exposure to the legal, finance, or insurance sectors preferred.
·Proven experience in implementing and managing comprehensive Financial Management Accounting systems.
·Strong understanding of SRA Accounts Rules and regulatory requirements for finance and insurance businesses.
·Strong analytical skills with expertise in managing complex financial structures.
·Advanced proficiency in financial management software and Excel.
·Experience overseeing multi-entity businesses or group structures.
·Familiarity with insurance and finance-specific regulatory environments.
·Strategic mindset paired with a hands-on, operational approach.
