Location: Walsall (Hybrid - 2 days office-based per week)

Hours: 37 per week
Rate:£25 per hour Umbrella
Overview
An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Housing and Welfare Officer to join a busy local authority service on an interim basis. The successful candidate will provide a specialist housing and welfare advice service, supporting residents across a range of housing and benefit matters.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver a comprehensive housing and welfare service in accordance with relevant legislation and policy.
* Prevent and resolve homelessness wherever possible by offering advice, support, and information to those in housing need.
* Assess housing applications, determine homelessness duties, and support clients with access to the private rented sector.
* Advise on welfare benefits, income maximisation, and housing rights, ensuring accurate and timely benefit claims.
* Liaise effectively with internal departments and external partners, including landlords, solicitors, and support agencies.
* Maintain accurate case records, correspondence, and system updates.
* Represent clients at tribunals or court hearings as necessary.
Requirements
* Proven experience within housing and welfare services, including homelessness prevention and benefits advice.
* Strong understanding of housing legislation, including the Housing Act 1996 (as amended) and the Homelessness Code of Guidance.
* Excellent communication and case management skills with a customer-focused approach.
* Ability to manage a varied caseload effectively under pressure.
* A commitment to equality, confidentiality, and high standards of service delivery.
* 5 GCSEs (A-C) including Maths and English, or equivalent qualifications.
Desirable
* Experience working with vulnerable individuals with complex needs.
* Knowledge of local authority housing systems and processes.
