Job Summary

Wythenshawe Hospital is a major acute teaching hospital and part of Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust—one of the largest and most ambitious NHS Trusts in the country. Our Surgical and Trauma divisions are expanding, and we are seeking committed and compassionate Nursing Assistants to join our multidisciplinary teams across several key inpatient areas.

We Currently Have Vacancies In:

* Ward F7 - Elective & Acute Surgery - Supporting pre- and post-operative patients, delivering high-quality care within a busy surgical environment.
* Ward A3 - Silver Trauma Unit - Providing specialist care for both elective and trauma patients, with 10 dedicated beds for silver trauma.
* Ward A4 & A6 - Acute Surgical Units - A fast-paced assessment area receiving patients with urgent surgical needs.
* The Nightingale Breast Surgery Centre - delivering high-quality, patient-centred breast care within one of the UK's leading specialist services.


The Role

As a Nursing Assistant, you will play a vital role in delivering safe, compassionate and person-centred care. You will work under the supervision of registered nurses and as part of a wider multidisciplinary team to support patients with:

* Personal care
* Monitoring and recording observations
* Mobilisation and rehabilitation activities
* Supporting mealtimes and hydration
* Maintaining a clean and safe clinical environment
* Providing emotional support to patients and their families


Main duties of the job

Being supervised by registered nurses and within Trust guidelines & protocols, you'll assist the Nursing team in delivering the excellent standard of patient care that you would expect for yourself and your loved ones. Your duties will involve supporting patients with personal care needs, including washing, mobilising, toileting, eating & drinking. You'll support the multidisciplinary team and perform observations, ECGs and venepuncture for our patient group following completion of the Support Worker Development Programme. Following on the job training and assessment, you'll learn how to undertake a range of delegated clinical care duties that include recording patient observations & changes to patient conditions.

Person Specification

Essential

Qualifications

* Holds National Care Certificate or be willing to undertake and complete within 12 weeks of starting.
* Level 2 Apprenticeship in health care OR Gain equivalent knowledge and skill undertaking the Trust Clinical Support Worker Development Programme.

Desirable

* Holds Functional Skills Level 1 Maths and English or education equivalent.

Experience

* Experience working in a healthcare, social care organisation/setting or service industry requiring people contact.

Desirable

* Experience of working within a health care environment.

Skills

* Good communication skills (written and verbal).
* Able to work as a team.
* Able to carry out well defined routine tasks.
* Able to work on own initiative, following direction/supervision by a Registered Healthcare Practitioner.
* Able to relate well with patients/relatives/visitors/colleagues/the multi-disciplinary team and wider Trust staff.

Desirable

* Computer skills
