The Role As a Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) focused Teaching Assistant you will play a key role in providing the best support possible to students aged 11-16 years old. This is a Pupil Referral Unit setting for pupils unable to access mainstream education due to needs and diagnoses of the following: Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, including anxiety and behavioural difficulties Medical-based needs preventing mainstream attendance Many pupils have experience disrupted education and require tailored, extensive support Facilities: Small, nurturing classes; calm spaces for pastoral and therapeutic support Curriculum: Core subjects (English, Maths, Science, Geography, Art, Food Tech, PE, PSHE) leading to GCSEs, ASDAN, functional skills, and vocational qualifications Individual Education Plans aligned with EHCPs using the graduated response model Partnerships with Educational Psychologists, SENSS, CAMHS and health professionals, with targeted literacy/spelling/dyscalculia intervention Who We Are Looking For SEMH experience in or out of an educational setting Able to collaborate with teachers and other support staff Understanding of challenging behaviours Understanding of positive behaviour support strategies Able to de-escalate challenging situations calmly and safely Working Hours / Benefits Full Time Monday - Friday Term Time Only Holiday Pay Access to over 10 CPD SEN training courses free of charge, and plenty more with a generous discount!
